Battle of Bentonville - coming this weekend

Sat Nov 03, 2007 7:02 am

Been busting my butt on this as my test scenario and it is coming together well. Have the cities set up as well as the armies just need some tweaking to get it to run since this is the first time I have done a whole scenario from scratch and keep finding things I missed to make it work correctly.

Keep an eye out tomorrow night / Sunday afternoon!

Why the battle of Bentonville? No idea, first battle I landed on and decided to use it :fleb:

I'm having fun with bigus' Vicksburg scenario this weekend. I look forward to enjoying your Bentonville scenario also. :cwboy:

It is coming together nicely! I will be finishing it up (I believe!) after the Michigan - Michigan State football game so if it isn't available tonight it most definitely will be tomorrow morning unless I hit a snag I am unable to get an immediate response to...it seems to be pretty straight forward for the most part though. I have done a lot of trial and error seeing what each attribute does ;-)

Hit that snag I was afraid of but have since figured it out this morning. Also wasted a lot of time by failing to save an XLS file as well as the CVS and found out the hard (and time consuming....) was you can't edit the CVS file and have it work correctly...sigh....but I am caught back up for the most part after putting a couple hours into it this morning, figured out my unit issue I was having and just have some minor things left to do so expect it today. I do have a 4, 3 and 1 year old which I am raising on my own so be patient, weekends are for the most part their time with dad ;-)

Your efforts are even more respectable then. It should remains a pleasure to mod, so take your time.

Yes, no rush. Release this scenario when you are ready.

A simulation/game of the Battle of Bentonville. Who would have thought?

The Civil War, war gaming, and I go way back. I began playing war games in the early 1960s with Avalon Hill's Tactics II, Gettysburg, D-Day, Waterloo, etc. Xmas 1962, I think, my elder brother received a special present, a complete hard-bound set of "Battles & Leaders of the Civil War." I used to stare at the OOBs and battle maps endlessly. By the mid 1960s, I was attempting to make my own board games of the Vicksburg Campaign, also Second Manassas, the Atlanta Campaign, etc. Using the original, standard, classic, one-size-fits-all AH combat results table of the time. Spending countless hours using a drafter's template to trace by hand hundreds and hundreds of hexagons on a large cardboard sheet. (The war gaming hobby was very obscure back then, and pre-printed hex sheets, much less PCs, were unavailable back then.) Ah, those were the days.

Over the years, I used to dream of being able to play/simulate every non-trivial Civil War battle...

Now, between HPS with its Civil War campaign and battle simulations, Matrix with its soon to be re-released Battleground Series of Civil War games, and AGEOD's AACW Civil War campaign construction set, my dreams are coming true.

A simulation/game of the Battle of Bentonville, a lopsided affair from the dying days of the Confederacy. Who would have thought? :niark:

Well, imagine that I missed my deadline ;-) Reminds me of my days as a programmer, almost DeJa Vu ;-)

I promise I am almost done with it. Time hasn't been as abundant as I thought it would have been but it is coming along. I will put something up today to show were it stands.

No doubt, I have made it possible for the CSA to pull out a victory. You will have to wait and see ;-)
