Newb Question

Fri Aug 01, 2008 1:25 am

OK, this may sound basic, but here goes....

In an effort to understand the mechanics of the game a little better, I went ahead and read the Wiki for AACW, and although I realize they are 2 different games, I know the principles apply in many cases. So something I found out was the value of not having armies holed up in structures where they can be trapped and besieged.

With this in mind, is it a decent strategy to deploy many of the locked city garrisons outside the structures to fight off invasions of the region? Or are the better suited to remaining inside?

Thanks

In my opinion:

It depends! [don't you hate that answer]

If you are trying to slow down an enemy on the rampage, leave them inside, it will buy a turn at least of delay.

If you want to get away to use them elsewhere, ten outside [but they're so weak they may not survive contact]

If you have any other forces there with them, leave them inside.

..and none of this is definitive! All depends on terrain, weather, sie of enemy force, value of the town/location.....

Pat of the fun I have is tryig different things like this to see what works! :)
Always ask yourself: "Am I part of the Solution?" If you aren't, then you are part of the Problem!

(This advice applies much more to AACW, as the entrenchments can be much more valuable in that game, but it does apply to WiA, etc...)

One value about having men in and out of a structure is that roving forces can 'occupy' trenches other units of yours are holding. Essentially, if you target a unit in the province you want to move to rather than just the province itself, you jump into defensive works already prepared. These can make a world of difference in winning or losing a fight.

Generaly, it is a good idea to reinforce positions with stationary guns. And if it can be afforded, deploy men in and out of structures. Weather should not affect your men outside, provided they are supplied. Just being in the same zone as a structure keeps 'em squared away.
