Pre war forts - inside or ouitside?

Tue Jul 29, 2008 6:28 pm

What's the point of stationing any troops inside a pre-war fort? It's equivalent to a lvl 4 entrenchment isn't it, so you could both be better fortified and not in a deathtrap sometimes if you just entrench outside it, correct?

I may be mistaken, but I think being in a fortification gives you better bombardment priorities if the fort is on a waterway.

it does give you a bombardment advantage i think...

but lets not forget the fact that you can do both, keep some troops inside as a garrison force and some outside to patrol the countryside to eliminate the threat of a siege. then you can boost your entrenchment level with having both a fort and trenchs around it :D

Ahhhh...very clever...never really thought of this tip before. Although, as the South, this would be rather difficult to amass the strength it would take to pull off successfully.

1. What Ethy & CWNut said.

2. It can give you two chances at bombardment.

3. Attacks against forces in forts or cities use limited frontage.

4. It gives you a hold-out force. If the enemy only attacks instead of assaulting, and the troops outside are driven off, you still retain possession, and can hopefully send a reaction force.

5. Forts are usually a good place for depots, if they are garrisoned in and out.
