How important is the Mississipi?

Sat Jul 19, 2008 4:10 pm

By controlling the Mississipi, can the Feds in this game cut the Confederacy, East from West? What are the effects of this in the game on resources and reinforcements?

well it allows you to move up and down the river it also opens up plenty of routes for invasion of the south. i not really sure how it effects conscription other then taking cities like memphis, and st. louis. also supplys will not be able to cross the river as well

Conscription points and war supplies aren't transported, nor do they require a link from where they are made to your capital or to where you use them for various purposes, so any you get in the Trans-Mississippi are full available to you. Supplies and ammo, though, need to be transported, so any built east of the Mississippi won't be available west of it and vice-versa

If you controlled the misssissippipeepee you could also base your ships in strategic points in the river to block re-supply via water for the trans missipeepee confederate army.

the Mississipi river is a vital artery for supplies, troop movement and a natural barrier for organised defence!

as the confederate player it is vital that you atleast have a formadable foot hold on the Mississipi right from the begining. with regards to the Kentucky/ Tennessee front involving such towns and cities as Bowling green, paducah, st lious, nashville, island 10 etc

the Mississipi also allows quick easy movement for reinforcement from troops being recruited in states such as Alabama, Georgia, Arkansas and of course Mississipi. without control of the Mississipi the confederate players morale can suffer and recruitment in the states of Kentucky and Tennessee suffers.
