PBEM Procedure for hosting player

Sun Jul 13, 2008 10:14 pm

The manuals are pretty clear on what to do, but I want to be absolutely certain -- could someone please post (maybe sticky) the EXACT procedure for hosting a PBEM game?

One spot I am confused on -- in AACW, after the host sets up the initial .trn file and sends it out, once orders are received from the opponent...which game do I load (I see a CSA and USA game to chose from)? I am playing USA.

Thanks

You load the one you are playing, i.e. in your vcase the USA game.

Just following up on this -- wondering if a sticky on exact procedure can be posted at some point?

I think it would be especially helpful for new players :)

The manual (as you can see here) is pretty specific about the procedure, but perhaps there are parts that should be clarified?

Yes (although for once maybe I am being a bit too nit-picky):

1) It says the hosting player starts off by choosing a side and starting a campaign/scenario. It then leaps to sending the .trn file to the opponent. Does the hosting player save the game before doing this? Are any orders issued before saving if that is the case? Or...does the host just start the game with the goal of creating the .trn file, and then exit and email.

2) If the latter is the case, does the host have to wait for the .ord file from the opponent before issuing his own orders?

The current PBEM game I am playing, my opponent is the host. I tried hosting against CobraII (he has already made a post elsewhere expressing his concerns), and do not think I am doing anything wrong...but I thought some clarity would maybe point out a minor error on my part or his.

Thanks for putting up with my "OCD" side :)

What i noticed when we tried 3 new games was that the first turn would work, but the second turn then would not show in the load game area after i had downloaded it and put it in the saves file under the subfolder for the pbem.
then when i hosted the next game to see if it would work i put cwnut77's ord file in the pbem subfolder and i started game and hit end turn and when i sent him the next trn file somehow his orders were not caried out and some were changed even though i didnt mess with his orders or anything just loaded game up and hit end turn.
should i have turned ai off or put it in passive on the options when i do a pbem.
