How to get generals in(to) the West?

Apart from a few guys like Fremont & Halleck, my generals basically all appear at Washington, DC. I am chronically short of leaders out West. How does one usually solve that problem? Redeploying them one at a time works, but is terribly slow. Sending them via RR is even slower--I just got offered a journey of a staggering 77 (!) days just to get into central IL. Am I missing something?

If you start moving several of them by train when they first appear, they will reach St. Louis, Kentucky et all where you need them by the time the troops start to appear there. You can redeploy one per turn as well and that usually solves the problem for me.

Had CSA raiders wreck havoc on your RR??
I usually send nearly half my yearly Washigton DC leaders to the west by RR (Cairo, San Louis, Louseville...) and it takes about 30 days or less (two turns)
Sometimes checking both RR and riverine transport can speed up things also.
Of course the teleport is very useful for special "express delivery".

I've been wondering myself. I have ample rail transport capacity and no, the network is good. The leaders are inactive, but that shouldn't affect rail transport time ... or?

I don't think so... it should be one day per region so unless they take the loooong touristic route
Can you see where is more than one day per region on the route??

You could change the option to (3) teleports.

As far as the day count... Maybe you tent them there twice? There and back you know? I have done some misdrops before and gotten a few wacky numbers.

Actually they take 2 days for each region along the route ... and that consistently. So?

Indeed. One overnight stay in each region they're passing through.

I had a general take 83 day's to go from wash. to cairo with both rail and river trans. set.And it was real early so there was no disruption of rail service

I had the same problem. Then I tried moving one general region by region. If you select one general in a stack full of them and drag him into the adjacent region, he moves at regular movement rate regardless of whether the original stack had rail movement set or not. You must, once you have him as a separate stack, set him in the rail movement mode.

Please note also that regions with destroyed railroads will require a stack to proceed at regular movement rate. I am not sure if a stack will automatically resume rail movement once that region is traversed; I reset rail movement at that point just to make sure.

i had pulled the gen.in ? out of hamilton's stack and placed him in the same region then selected rail and river movement and got the 83 day result

I read somewhere that sometimes it's necessary to toggle the RR movement button, on - off - on, in order for it to work in some cases where the unit has been previously removed from a stack. I haven't been able to confirm this however.

I have noticed that changing stack sizes when removing one or more units from it can change movement rates if you remember to toggle the RR on-off-on. It is something that is more noticable with land movement though.

In 1.10 even when there is 0 RR assets left a lone General is still able to utilize the RR. Is this WAD?

I have also noticed that moving lone Generals did not reduce the RR - never tried it at zero. Also using 1.10.
