7 short topics/questions

Is it possible to rename armies/stacks?

How does one “screen” an army with cavalry?

Does anyone use the Loyalty settings to good effect?

How many replacements are reasonable when purchasing?

I read the thread on excessive cohesion loss and I agree that it is a bit severe. Some units reduce this I understand. What are the various ways to reduce this? Field Hospitals? Marines as far as they facilitate river crossings? Anything else?

LA Chasseurs appears as a militia USCT but once trained turn white? Did I imagine this? I perfectly understand the reason in terms of game engine mechanics why this would occur but still I have to say I am a little offended.

Here is something that probably doesn’t happen much nor should it: foreign entry. Recently I played a PBEM where we wanted to see foreign entry so we set the option for easy. Mid 1863 Great Britain enters the war. The CSA player very quickly and easily moved the entire BEF to Norfolk then onward to Washington. It all happened a little too quickly and easily in our opinions. This British juggernaut SMASHED the larger and experienced AotP. Huge win versus a veteran army. Are they overpowered? I know it is difficult to imagine what British intervention might have looked like but I have a hard time believing it would look like that. Any armchair experts on this have an opinion?

No.

Do it directly. Send out your cavalry to block your desired route against enemy cavalry patrols. If the enemy is moving in force you will be able to see it on the battle report. In this case your screen will collapse.

I don't believe these features are developed too well at the moment.

Depends on the size of your military. I always try to keep enough in reserve for a large battle with each of my armies. Everyone has their own opinion, however.

Try not to conduct operations in muddy conditions. Don't make them march too far and too fast.

I've noticed this incosistency as well. It's a minor thing and I am sure it will be addressed in good time. In the meanwhile, however, I'm sure the developers meant no offense to anyone. You should put in a request in the 'Improve A-ACW' forum.

With regards to your last point who is to say what actually would have happened if European intervention happened. It may have turned out like that, however, there is equal chance that it may not have. Sounds like your opponent made the most of his allies.

One rule of thumb that I have the impression is used by more than a few, is to have replacements numbering approximately one tenth the number of on-map elements of that type. This usually gives you a buffer to cover normal losses without tying too much of your resources up in replacements. As you play, you'll get a feel for how many replacements you tend to use (which can vary a fair amount, depending on gaming style, I imagine), and you can tweak the numbers from that.
