Quick Question- Scenarios Included

Fri Dec 21, 2007 5:30 pm

Hey folks,

I've been playing the demo to this game lately and am considering a full purchase as it's a very nice looking game and seems to play pretty well!

Anyway, I'm sure this question has been answered but I'm having a tough time finding what scenarios are included. I can find the original list, but I know through patches and such more has been added.

Specifically I'm wondering about the single theatre scenarios. I was able to find some posts talking about them being made, but did they make it in? I think the whole campaign is a little overwhelming for me, I'm a relative newcomer to wargaming and need some things to ease me in, but a little more depth than the short scenarios.

Sorry if this is an obvious answer, I was having a tough time. I'll be picking this up immediately if they're included, and if not I'll probably still be picking it up, but with a lot more frustration. :)

I think that there will be an 1862 East and West theatre scenerio. I'm also hoping for the Missouri theatre scenerio to be added as well. I think that this will be all for theatre scenerios ,.....but I could be wrong since I don't know what other scenerios are being developed.

You can download the ACW data base to find the two 1862 theatre scenerios here.....if you dont want to wait or if you don't have it already.

Does this mean we can download and find the files to play a east or west ONLY scenario? if so where do the appropriate files go to ...or is there anything I have to do specifically to set that up?

any help would be appreciated....thanx

Yes the scenerios are also far from complete. The reinforcments are not there although you can get replacements. I'm not sure if this was intentional or not.I was not sure if these scenerios were to be included into the 1.08 patch. I guess not.

Indeed, I asked a few times Beta input for the inter-theaters reinforcements and never got anything, so lacking time to do the research myself, I moved to something else :siffle:

Since my expertise is primarily in the RR linkage and TransportLvl aspects of the scenario file regeneration and the above knowledge of how the City/Regional data is critical to keep up to date, it would be a big help if you could flesh out the required reinforcements if there are any. I was able to regen a ForcePool for each of the scenarios, since there was one in the DB files for each. Though only one of the scenarios .xls files had a ForcePool include file entry and the other had a SubFactions include file entry.

I figured that both should have the ForcePool include file so I replaced the one scenario's SubFactions include line with a ForcePool include line for now. Might have to add a SubFactions include line to both later. I might mention that other than the missing $strings. the scenarios regenerated without any other errors for now, which is a big plus.

The Scenerios now show the reinforcements. I have'nt really had time to check it out completely but it looks O.K. I think all thats left is the $strings. Good one Gray.

The West Campaign's events and leaders etc, seem to be there in the XML file but how bout the East scenerio? I noticed the West XML has all their leaders weapon upgrades etc in the events tab but the East does not. Where are the East events?

@Gray...Got your 1.07i DB files. I will check them out with the new scenerio I have on the go (Kentucky 1862).

Yes they are Xls files and I open them with Open Office. I still don't see the East Events in the files.
I've seen at least epidemics in game but not sure where PhilThib put them in his Xls file.
Are these Inc files? I don't see an include cell for "various events"?
If they are then why would I need Script files? I could "Include" anything
I wanted and imbed it into the scenerio Scn file. Then I would'nt need to add Sct or "Event" files for a scenerio download.

For the East and West campaigns, I have typed all the extra events (uusally in Various and other xls files) directly into the scenario events...

...the reason was simple: if I left them as includes, they would be as such and then a lot of events regarding the non/unplayable section of the map would appear and mess up things (e.g. troops raised in West section while you play the East scenario or vice versa)

So I took each one of the usual includes XLS files, selected only the part which was related to the theater played, and copy-pasted those parts into the event section of the campaign scenario event section.

The only part I missed (and still misses) was the one with the reinforcements from one theater of war to the other (apart from the 1862 Union fleet in the Gulf.. :p leure: ).

Yes I think I like this way better because it makes a nice compact scenerio file.

I thought I did all that already, which has been posted in the AACW beta forum since October in the 'half campaign' thread. Was it not what you needed?

@Gray..yes but if the events are in the XLS Events Tab then there's no need for external SCT files. This is what I was refering to.

@Runyan...I totally missed the Half Campaign thread  I'm gunna try and track it down and have a look at it.

I really thought the two half Campaigns were to be included in the 1.08 patch.
Although I never really had a chance to look at them the Idea of including Yearly Theatre scenerios makes a great game even better. IMHO

O.K I used the generic 1862 Campaign $strings.
this should be playable with the Reinforcements and Events.
It shows as 1862(west theatre scenerio).

Unless the East Events are done that one could take a while.

Providing the output files is just an interim solution for now.

You have the files. I got them from your post. All I"ve done is tweak the $Strings inputs and added a few lines so you can create more corps and divisions. Other than that I've only got to turn 5 so playtesting it is far from complete. If you like I'll PM you the XLS file but posting the main scenerio files everytime I make an adjustment is just silly.

This thread should be moved to the Mods section.
