Halloween Quiz

Thu Oct 18, 2007 10:09 pm

I thought I would open the competition to all as the response has been minimal - but we have two correct answers in the hat so far.

Has anyone else noticed that the region with the spookiest name in the AACW game also has another spooky thing about it?

A quiz for the denizens of the board to see if any can get the answer? Send me a PM if you get it. All correct answers will then get drawn out of a hat on October 31st and the winner can choose one of the following :-

Battleground: Bull Run.
Battleground: Antietam.
Battleground: Gettysburg.

If you are bored of the Civil War :-

ADANAC: 1805/1809.
Panzer Campaigns: Bulge 44.

You will have to give me a postal address obviously - but as long as you live
outside the UK it's unlikely I will stalk you. (But as it's Halloween I may stalk you a little).

I await your answers with RELISH,
Chris

Winner will be announced at midnight on the 31st.

I've decided to triple the prizes as I have a stack of games I'll never play or never play again (not because they are bad - I just don't have enough time).

So also adding :-

HPS Waterloo
HPS Punic Wars
Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl
Great Invasions
Strategic Command: European Theater

+ two great DVD's
The Russian EF film: Come and See
The Finnish: Fire and Ice
(Both may be European format DVD's).

Cake
Death

As I have expanded the competition the first place will get their first 3 choices and the second place 2 choices of what dregs are left.

The third place gets cake or death although these options are also available to places one and two should they wish it.

I admit I'm clueless.

I remember of a region in BOA which is called 'Lady's Hole', but this not that spooky :)

Still only two correct answers, are you going to let them walk away with these great prizes?

(I'll be bugging you all until Hallowe'en - I need at least 3 names in the hat - I need somebody on cake or death!)

I'm sure he does this in French as well.

In the hat so far :-
Lodilefty, Primaspirit and Jabber.

It is indeed Jabberwock

Thanks for writing it out in full Wall so I could copy and paste :sourcil:

P.S. I just amended the last post to say Wednesday 31st instead of Saturday (I had my dates mixed up). The draw will be made at 9pm as I will probably be in bed by the witching hour!

I noticed the "other spooky thing" back when I was rewriting areas.ini to fix weather. Then I forgot all about it, so it took me three guesses.

Jabberwock, Jabber, Jab . . . it is all the same to me.

AGEOD allow me to entertain you on this thread until the 31st.

This will probably be my last post here until the draw on Wednesday.
Still only 3 correct answers in so all entries will currently win a prize.

The booby prize has still not been claimed (and for that you can post here - no need for a PM).

I don't want to give anything away but if you are smart there is a way to get the answer without having to look at every region on the map!

Happy Halloween.

6 more DVD's added to the choice of prizes out of boredom :-

The Patriot
The Last of the Mohicans
The Last King of Scotland
The American Civil War (Lonely Planet Guide)
Master and Commander
The Crossing

Now first place gets 4 choices, then second 3 and third now gets 2 choices along with cake or death.

I'm hoping for at least 4 correct answers by Wednesday. At least it will make drawing the names out of the hat more exciting.

Half an hour to go and still only 3 winners in the hat! One more entry would be welcome even if it's wrong. Try your worst. At 9pm I will draw the winners and list them here. I will then invite the winner to list the prizes he would like and PM me with a postal address.

Halloween Winners!

Wed Oct 31, 2007 10:30 pm

Hi folks, the draw has been made. The winner is :-
Jabberwock!

Second place :-
Primaspirit

Third place :-
Lodilefty

So Jabberwock please make your choice of 4 of the prizes below on this thread. When you have done so Primaspirit please add your 3 choices of what is left and then Lodilefty if you actually still want anything of the remainder please post your 2 choices. Cake or death is also an option for you although if you choose one of these options I will have to think of how to send it (cake may be more awkward to send than death).

After you have made your choice please PM me with a postal address.

Some great answers, many of them wrong, but I found out that there are many spooky things about AACW. It was a difficult competition but the easy way to solve it was to log on to the wonderful AACW Wiki site and take a look at the regions there :-

http://ageod.nsen.ch/aacwwiki/Regions_by_name%2C_part_2

The answer was of course 'The Dead Lakes' region 666.

If any of you actually looked at every region on the map your parents have my sympathy.

Nobody won (or even entered) the booby prize. The answer for that was that Robert Smith appeared in both videos.

Prizes
PC games :-

Battleground: Bull Run.
Battleground: Antietam.
Battleground: Gettysburg.
ADANAC: 1805/1809.
Panzer Campaigns: Bulge 44.
HPS Waterloo
HPS Punic Wars
Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl
Great Invasions
Strategic Command: European Theater

DVD's :-

The Russian EF film: Come and See
The Finnish: Fire and Ice
The Patriot
The Last of the Mohicans
The Last King of Scotland
The American Civil War (Lonely Planet Guide)
Master and Commander
The Crossing

(DVD's may be European or US region - let me know if you want one and I will take a look - my DVD player plays both (after I hacked it :sourcil: ).

Happy Halloween!
Cheers, Chris

Wow, thanks. :)

Hmmm, let's see. If I choose cake, that means somebody gets stuck with death later . . .

How about:
1. HPS Punic Wars
2. Strategic Command
3. One of the Battleground games, either Bull Run or Antietam, depending on what the other winners choose, since I would be equally happy with either.
4. Master & Commander, if it is US region. If not, Last King of Scotland, if that is US region. If not, let others choose, and I will get back to you.

P.S. Post the incorrect guesses!

P.P.S. You can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes . . . you get what you need.

Hey Jabber, congratulations on your victory! Cake or death is out for you - only third place can choose that!

I just had a look at Master and Commander and The Last King of Scotland and I can't actually see where the region is mentioned. I bought both in the UK however so I assume they are both European.

The only DVD's I think are USA region are :-

The American Civil War (Lonely Planet Guide)
The Crossing

I think a lot of DVD's are easy to convert to both however if you have a quick look on the net - type in your DVD player model and the word 'hack'.
My DVD player cost $30 and can play both after I entered a command that took me 30 seconds.

(Maybe it will mess up your player though - so on your head be it).

HPS Punic Wars and Strategic Command will be on their way to you with one of the Battleground games that you chose. Let me know what you decide to do about the DVD's or another PC game - we are in no rush (In fact if any winner feels like waiting a couple of weeks I can add Medal of Honour:Airborne as well).

Let me know how you would like to proceed Jab.

Unfortunatly I cannot post the failed entries as I deleted them to save confusion. I just wanted to keep the winning entries in my inbox. Maybe next year I can go for the spooky regions that don't have a 666 ID.
Cheers, Chris

Yippee! Almost first, almost first!! :fleurs: :fleurs: :fleurs: :fleurs:

I would chose:

Panzer Campaigns: Bulge 44: I always liked to try one of these HPS titles.

Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl: Many people will be happy if I have the possibility to relieve some aggressions... ;)

Come and See: Long time since I saw a Russian movie.

Thanks a lot!!!

Cheers
Norbert
