Divisional Command What am I missing

Thu Sep 20, 2007 5:13 pm

Sorry to bring this up again it's just frustrating me that at time's I cannot understand why I can or Can't form a division. Not sure how to describe what I mean but here goes

Active general Yes
On his own or in Corp Yes (tried both types of general)
War supplies Money and Conscripts Yes

but I cannot form the division I know I have not reached the upper limit I only have 3 divisions formed but just do not know why I could form these divisions but not the ones I tried for with a variety of different generals this time round. When it says 0 divisions require the form up cost not enough assets are there other assets that are being talked about apart from Conscrips money or war supplies. Thanks for any advice given

Maybe you are not adding enough units. A leader and one brigade won't form a division.

It's before get to that stage when I try to enable divisional command it is still greyed out. Just trying to figure out the why. The game is awesome but to play it better got to understand why somethings work for me sometimes but not others.

Do you really have War Supplied, Money and Conscripts at that moment or are your projected to have them?

Thank you now that makes sense I have not actually got the war supplies necessary just projected war supplies which I am always spending till very few remain. Now I realise I must save some. thank you once again.

No problem. Only reason I knew that one was Pocus explained it to me a few months ago after I asked the EXACT same question :bonk:

as a corollary to this, always remember that the projected totals are just that

i usually leave a comfortable buffer in case the projections fail since i hate starting a turn with zero or near-zero balances

Actually, one leader and 1 brigade CAN make a division, considering that the division button only works if you have a general selected, and it does not matter how many brigades you have selected.

Lacked assets??

Sat Jan 19, 2008 12:35 pm

I have a lot of 1 star generals that I am assigning to new divisional commands. Very often I can not make a division because the button is greyed out even if the "This leader can actively lead units this turn" is displayed. I get this message though after the round; "....lacked assets to pay the administrative cost". My bank account is full so I can not figure this out. Anyone?

If you look on your finance screen, it will show how much conscripts, money and war supplies you have currently and how much you have projected for the next turn. You can use the projected amounts to build units and it is these amounts that are shown at the bottom of the reinforecement and replacement screens.

However, to form divisions, you can only use your current amounts. In your case, you probably do not have enough conscripts or money in your current account.

Another way to see this is at the black screen at the top which shows you the levels of conscripts, money, war supplies, ammo and money. Two values are displayed, eg 100/200. The first is your current and the second is your projected. If the first is zero, you are stuck until the next turn unless unbuild some new units or change your replacement selections.

The cost is payed before you get your "income", so you need to have the neded resources in stock as you click the "next turn"-button. Could that be it?

EDIT: Dang, Ricain was faster, even with a much longer post. *sigh*

I might beat a dead horse here, but I have the same problem: I'm playing the union and just entered 1862. For several turns I was trying to set up some divisions but it never worked (apart from once or twice). I'm absolutely positive that I do have enough war supplies, money and conscripts. What I do: I select a leader in a command and hit the button (if not greyed out) but I don't select additional units. I even tried it when the leader was not part of a stack. This posting has the attached save, please take a look at the leader in Hill, MO. Did I miss?

Yes, Gray is correct. You need to select the units that you want in your division. You select the units by CTRL-left click and then press the '+' button to the left of the 'create division' button. If you do not select any units, the division status will disappear the next turn.
