Union Starting General Pool?

Sat Jul 14, 2007 2:01 am

Something someone mentioned in another thread has me confused, namely that the Union starts with several two star generals in 1861 (april or July, I'm not sure). Namely C. Hamilton and R. Milroy.

Now, no campaign that I have ever played has any starting generals in DC other than old fuss and feathers. The only two star in the whole union is little mac. I've even started fresh campaigns and just checked the rosters and I don't see these generals. I have never gotten a DC 'pool' of generals until Jan of 62.

So, is there something wrong or am I just getting advice based on an older version of the game, or does this maybe have to do with settings, etc.? :bonk:

I've looked in April and they aren't in the roster, let alone in DC. Just how many starting generals in DC are there? I get none. Are you playing with the latest patches?

Also, I bought through Matrix download, if that makes a difference in comparisons.

Anyone else have this issue?

They don't appear right off the bat, they show up as reinforcements on either turn 2 or 3.

OK, I've gotten them on turn two starting in April.

However, I never get these DC generals in the July campaign, except for Keyes. They should already be on the map by then. I've played the start of the July campaign exclusively since I got the game (fighting most battles with divisional generals, and not even forming a corps until on of them gets promoted), and have never gotten Milroy, etc. unless they are part of the big crop that shows up in Jan 62.

I can't imagine that's deliberate. Anyone else playing July campaigns know what I'm talking about?

odd they are not on the map then. perhaps they were all intergrated into brigades by july? no idea, does sound odd however.

These generals were added as part of the new division rules patch, they were not in the initial release OOB. My guess is the scenarios simply haven't been revised yet, so you see the old OOB from pre-divisional changes.

Perhaps they'll update the scenarios to match the changes after the patches slow down and things stabilize.
