Naval battle observations

Fri Mar 03, 2006 7:02 am

Pocus,
Just checking to see if these naval battle results look acceptable to you. Thanks.

Playing the 1757 scenario as the French, with extra AI help and at the 2nd difficulty level.

Lost this first battle in Nov 1757:

France:
strength 166
ranged losses 139
Admiral 3-2-2
3 x trans
1 x 64
5 x 74
2 x 80
All troops on transports were lost:
8 inf, 4 mar

Britain:
strength 227
ranged losses 0
Admiral 4-2-3
1 x 44
4 x 64
6 x 74
4 x 80
1 x 100
Wind gauge

I accept that the French were defeated, but why did I lose all my transported troops as ranged losses and no transports were sunk?
Should not the British have taken some fire losses?

Lost this second battle in Dec 1757:

France:
strength 136
ranged losses 58
boarding losses 15
Admiral 3-2-2
3 x trans
1 x 64
5 x 74
2 x 80
Wind gauge

Britain:
strength 139
ranged losses 108
boarding losses 10
no Admiral
1 x 44
4 x 64
6 x 74
4 x 80
1 x 100

Should this not have been a French victory on points?
Why was the British strength rating so much less than the first battle (same number of ships and no losses in the first battle)?
I can see that the French strength rating has dropped due to losses to the units in the first battle.

ranged losses 0? Thats must be a bug or something like that.

troops destroyed and no transports sunk: this dont surprise me too much, this is to factor that aflame transports, even if not sunk are a living hell for soldiers. Have you checked in which state the transports were after battle?

for the 2nd battle the British rating having dropped indicate that they still suffered losses in the first battle => send me the savegame, I will double check that.

Thanks for the report,

Sorry - can't send you the saved game as it was overwritten by the end-of-scenario saved game.

I will try to recreate this anomaly and send a saved game.

I am glad that "save as" will make it into the next patch!

Thanks.

the program keeps your last 12 turns... If you dont have deleted the game directory, then it should be there

Hi Pocus,

My XP Windows Explorer shows two game directories with 12 saved games each, but when I Load in-game I see only the two Tutorial saves and the most recent save of two different games (a total of 4).
Should I not see all the saved games? Thanks.
