Polish cavalry filling division slots

Fri Dec 13, 2013 3:31 am

I noticed that some Polish divisions have 1 cavalry regiment filling a division slot. Is that the most effective use of one of the limited division unit slots? It seems that an additional infantry regiment or artillery might be more useful in most battle situations than a cavalry regiment especially if the corps already has a cavalry division or regiment outside of the division structure. So is it better to pull the cavalry out of the division and replace with infantry or keep the cavalry in the division?

Yes, I would take it out. Cavalry is good to have in the corps, as you note, for recon purposes and to boost your pursuit destruction of enemy forces when you rout them (and to prevent your forces from being destroyed when you rout), but I myself only put them in the division if I need to because I don't have enough infantry/artillery.

The setup of several Polish units in that scenario is a bit odd, if I remember corrected. I seem to recall a tank division that really should be broken up and spread thinly around other divisions.
