Evaporating Prussians

Fri Feb 15, 2013 12:19 am

I've been playing a GC as Prussia to learn the game, I'm still new to this.

I built a pretty decent sized Army, although not enough to meet the goal of "have largest army in Europe for 8 out of next 10 years".
I researched muzzle loading rifles (I think it was called) and then had several hundred messages about "such and such regiment has been successfully trained". Suddenly, my combat power must have radically increased, because on the F10 screen my rating compared to other nations soared.

All well and good! Until the next turn. Seems I'm unable to meet the needs of hundreds of elements - despite having bucketloads of surplus manufactured goods, supplies, ammo, gold, etc. I increased the number of replacements in my pools (F3 screen). However I can't keep up. I did have a pool of conscripts and officers but that was quickly depleted.

I don't get enough conscripts each turn to add more than 2 or 3 replacements per turn. My line infantry alone has over 2100 missing. My combat power has plummeted. By my calulations it will take more than 6 years of game time to catch up. The partial mobilization decision became available to me, I thought that might help. But I have clicked it each turn for over 6 months, and it never activates.

Is there something I'm missing here? I'm amazed that a new technology instead of helping my military situation, has ravaged my army. Not that I want to fight any wars, but in the game at the moment Prussia would be crushed easily.

What can I do, apart from clicking next turn for years to come? I must be missing or not understanding something about replacements, or maintenance of the Army. Any helpful suggestions ? Thanks :)

You need a certain level of conscripts and officers or you suffer damage. I suspect that you have run out of either conscripts or officers, which means that every element takes damage. To correct this, you need to check the message log, it will tell you that your nation's army needs "x money, y officers, z conscripts, and w mfg goods". You need to make sure you have more that the number from that message of each type each turn. You are compounding the problem by spending all your available conscripts/officers buying replacements for the damage you are taking.
Remember - The beatings will continue until morale improves.
