Colonial Buildings Ownership Change

Thu Dec 13, 2012 4:57 pm

I am playing S-P/Italy in an 1850GC game and I have just declared Eritrea and Djibuti as protectorates.

There are several structures belonging to the Ottomans in these 2 regions which have stayed in their control including the harbours in both Djibuti and Massawa even though my military control is 100%

I am a little unsure of the rules concerning how ownership is supposed to work in this case. If I declare a colony do I get automatic control / destruction of these Ottoman structures?

One of the problems I now face is that the game is saying that no colonial options are valid there. Basically I am trying to build Colonial Penetration to 50 so that I can declare a colony. Specifically I am trying to build an outpost but it says the resulting structure would not be valid (I meet all the basic requirements for the structure). I am guessing that this is in part due to the Ottomans having a structure in the province?

I know I can script a change to give myself contol of these structures but before I do that I wanted to be sure how it was supposed to work.

You will need to go to war or script the change. Other nation colonial structures do not switch sides when you make an area a protectorate or a colony.

FYI, they can be there for years.

Many colonial buildings have a decay condition based on colonial penetration only, or on hostily. So if the CP is not low enough, they stay... Now yes this can be difficult to raise your (and lower their) because you have less options in playing your own "CP bonus actions". With a war and some units of your, they can be destroyed faster though :dada:

Thanks Pocus. Does the same logic apply to harbours?

I am not sure harbors can be teared down. They are considered colonial buildings (needing certain CP according to their level) in colonial regions though.

Again just for information but it does seem as if the harbours decay when the owners CP reaches zero.

When I first acquired protectorate status over Djibuti the harbour there was in Ottoman hands. I think the original Ottoman CP was 10 when I managed to build a mission and a military outpost (both buildings remove 5 CP from an opposing nation) the harbour structure was destroyed.

I have a more difficult proposition though with Massawa Harbour where the Ottoman CP is 20 (and there is also an Ottoman military outpost here so I can't build one of my own). Hopefully when I go to war with them and remove the outpost to build my own I will be able lower their CP to the point where the Ottoman harbour is destroyed to

Have you tried using the ChangeRgnOwner script? It might help. http://www.ageod.net/agewiki/ChangeRgnOwner

If you go to war with the province owner, it is important to remember not to build a fort in the province. It is most annoying. You declare war and move troops into the province and besiege the fort. Eventually the fort is destroyed and all of the colonial structures raise your flag. You repeat with other provinces. When you make peace with the former owner, the province structures fly your flag. However, if you build a colonial fort, the province reverts back to the original owner once peace is declared. In my game, I had to fight two wars with Portugal to correct this problem.
