Experiences and improvements for the Ottomans

Mon Sep 10, 2012 12:43 pm

I was playing 8 years (until end of 1857) with the Ottomans, the AAR runs in spanish forum.
I've got a lot of fun playing with this faction, I recommend it

Some issues for possible new versions (excuse my English/globish language) :

- I don't know if a city can have two or more name depending of the power which controls it, the case of Constantinople or Istanbul is the classical example. An Ottoman couldn't accept the Roman name and for Russians and Western Europeans the name of Istanbul was hurting to heard. But it is also typical in Central and East Europa (german and slavic names).

- Rebels should not escape out their territories, I think the major part of the rebels fight for a “local” reason and I don't find normal that rebels of Albania escape to Slavonia or rebels of Kuwait have the last combats in Mosul. I know it is typical for more games, but a limited territory of rebellion would be a idea or directly limiting to the same region. Playing as Russia, the rebellions of the states in Central Asia have not this problem because their were “states” and they fought normally in their territories.

- Carlist Wars in Spain were wars, where the carlist have the basis in the mountains and they did raids over cities to sac, it was overall in the 2nd and 3rd Carlist Wars. Maybe these “mountain” strong factor and the “sac” effects can be applied for the rebellions against the Ottomans too.

- I could create protectorates in regions with rebellions in course (Yemen, Libya), the rebels don't decrease the penetration level or not always and it is relatively easy to do. Maybe forbidden a new protectorate while there are active rebels of a higher effect of the rebels presence over the colonial penetration should be more realistic. The colonial upgrade is maybe too easy.

- Albania, Sarajevo or Constanza are not objectives for the Ottomans, if they lose this regions/cities the effect is very lower compared to the sense of the real losing in this time, I think they should be objectives too. Some cities and regions could be objectives and/or have a positive SOI : Cairo/Egypt, Tunisia, Eritrea, Crimea, Djibouti. The game would be more interesting to play as Ottoman Empire.

- The economical items are really easy, the Ottomans have potential in many products and the population is numerous. I think a corruption factor could be applied, the Ottoman administration is an example of corruption and playing with them I could collect a good quantity of money and I can't do many things with it (I use this surplus with 5 developments). Maybe Spain, Portugal, the nations in Italy or directly all lands could have this factor with different values.

- I miss the recruitment of light artillery, I have found with the Marines Brigades but I can't have alone, only if the infantry units disappear and the light artillery remains in these brigades. This can be very useful in the war at desert and cheaper than conventional artillery.

Two possible bugs, I'm not sure :

- Medina is under Hejaz military control although I dominate completely with my armies since the first turn.

- 2 of my 3 Maritime Trade Box are without transport each turn. “Transport ships in Mediterranean/Black Sea Maritime Trade transported 0 supply points oversea, the maximum capacity being 240/480 points.”, it doesn't pass with the Indian Ocean Trade Box. I don't know if it is a mistake or not, I changed the fleets between Trade Boxes and I think this null transport is since this change of fleets.

I agree with most of it, because I'm playing right now with the Ottomans too. Furthermore, they would need Laws, Reforms, Decrees and Missions files implemented (Belgium is, but not Ottoman Empire).

Regarding the likely bugs:

-"Medina is under Hejaz military". It happens to me the same. I control Medina city, but not the province. I was thinking to declare war, but I found it to be nonsense, because it's colonial area.
-I thought the same about the MTB, but I think you get supply points when troops need to be supplied, for example after a battle. Then I notice an increase in the transported supply points.

I add something else:

-Building a fort/harbour in Crete or Dodecanese destroys the previous harbour/fort. So, just one structure allowed.
