International forces in Murmanks - How to get them on the field ?

Fri Feb 24, 2012 3:22 pm

Hello,

After having droped RUS for a time, I finally got myself into a serious Southern White Grand Campaign ! And I have quite a few problems at the beginning of course...

One of them is : There is a bunch of forces from US and the UK in Murmansk. I want to get them in Karalia (In that village north of Olonets, linked to Murmansk by a railroad), but when I send them by themselves they need several turns, and the delay increase as each turn they lose their cohesion. Also, they can't use rairoads apparently, since it does nothing when I press the button. I thought I had to use boats, but it appears that the only boats I have that can transport troops ar ein Novorossisk, that I just took from the reds, and can't leave the Black Sea...

So what can I do with them ?

For your plan to work, you have to attack and control Segezhda. It's kinda hard to use a railroad if you don't control the territory or the railroad stations. In the game, at least.

Alternatively, and preferably, you could try to do what the Allies did historically. Wait for the White uprising in Arhangelsk. Won't take long - 2-3 turns. Transport the allies there. Try to get to Petrograd via Vologda and Tikhvin. Alternatively, you could get take the Vologda -> Yaroslavl -> Ivanovo -> MOSCOW route (I know, most of these names are meaningless to you, but try looking at the map with this Internet page still open in the browser and Alt+TAB back and forth, so that you can see what I mean).

Of course, it won't be easy.

Hope it helped. :)

Oh yeah, I just noticed there navies with transport boats in Arkangelsk ! But then again I can't get them to Murmanks... I have a message that says it's impossible.

Now that I think about it, it's in October. Could it be because the sea is frozen (I don't know where to check it)?

The fleet in Arhanghelsk is exclusively for moving down the Dvina river and bombing stuff. It's a riverine fleet.

It is the fleet in Murmansk (the one with cruisers, etc. and *transports*) that you wanna use to transport ships back and forth.

In case I was unclear:

Allied troops are in Murmansk.
The Allied navy (the important ships, anyhow) is in Murmansk.
Load the troops in the navy.
Move it over to Arhanghelsk and debark the units there.
Move the fleet back to Murmansk (so that it uses supplies from Murmansk and doesn't compete for supplies with your troops in Arhangelsk)
Whenever new troops show up in Murmansk rinse and repeat.

You can also use the armored trains in Murmansk to establish military control over the lines into Karelia. Trains switch MC over quickly. You need 25% MC to be able to use the rail lines.
