Good tip about the roster rank sorting. This was a game against the AI so it doesn't really matter of course. I would like to get that nailed down though in PBEM games where there's less room for NM error usually (and VPs don't matter much, unless it's a tourney game!!!)

I think Pat's suggestion is the only solution. One thing that I've found is that if there is somebody between a general who might cause a political ruckus and the highest seniority general being passed-over that he works as a buffer. So if you have:

Sherman* seniority between 1 & 4
Lyon* seniority between 5 & 10, politic low
McClellan* seniority below Lyon's, politic high
Kearny* seniority below McClellan's

if you promote Sherman nothing can happen to you.

If you promote Kearny at the same time, Lyon then has the highest seniority after Sherman's promotion and is now the one being passed-over, but if his political rating is low there is little chance that he will cause problems, or if he does, they will be relatively small.

But in such a situation there is no way to tell exactly what will happen as in the tool-tip, although the formula is probably not that difficult.

Regarding promotions, I think they are way too easy. I can understand historic generals being promoted by event, but I would like the other generals to be much harder to promote. I suppose the amount of seniroty points to be gained might be multiplied by 2 or 3 ? You probably would have to mod the whole scale of promotions in that case (if you need to earn 8 or 12 seniority points you can't have a seniority of just 4 to begin with).

I mean it would give more command and control problems, and force us player to use the historical generals more (less quick promotion of the good 1* generals). As the south I might have to use the Polk, Smith, Holmes or Forney of this world for a long while before having good enough generals.

I know it is not strictly historical, but I don't want to end up with 8*** and 15** as the CSA...

Changing seniority gains required would be a huge effort, I think. The code itself needs changing, then most of the models...
...and then a portion of the community would "grognard" about that!

Another approach is very moddable:
Make changes to the paramaters in GameLogic.opt that regulate Command. :D

This would all be a mod, not something changed in official versions...
Always ask yourself: "Am I part of the Solution?" If you aren't, then you are part of the Problem!
