Don't drop the ball on marketing!

As much as we'd all like to believe that this game will sell itself, in order to sell itself, people must actually be aware of its existence. I had zero awareness of this until I read Wargamer's preview. Better pick up the pace and send out some review copies, at least. I understand that there is also a forum-based marketing effort (I've seen Cat Lord's posts on Wargamer, Matrix and Paradox forums), but still, there's more advertisement for NCP on AGEOD's website than there is for this game :w00t:

The best bit of advertising I ever saw for a AGEOD game was in the BBC History magazine here in the UK for WW1 at the time of the 90th anniversary of the armistice. The November issue. Really stuck too.

With RuS I think the same could still be done, although the game itself may seem a bit 'bolshie', no? So, focus on universities, and especially those with Russian departments. Intelligent students should look a bit more than a passing glance at this game, at least I should think so.

Give it time though. It took me two years before I actually purchased WW1G.

Making it seem "bolshie" is what makes it marketable - it's easy to re-use Bolshevik propaganda imagery, slogans, etc. in a marketing campaign. The Whites sucked at that - AGEOD shouldn't repeat their mistakes.

On a related note - the teaser trailer is absolutely brilliant...and illustrates the above point.

I'm sure Denikin thought the same, unfortunately in 2 years time he was on a boat to France (I guess Cat Lord would have to be put on a boat to Crimea, though).

Come on, you'd think people who did this much research on the Russian Civil War, would realize the importance of propaganda!

I think it should be marketed in both directions, i.e pro White & Communist. Perhaps we maybe looking at adverts in the left-wing press? Propaganda! We, the faithful, should all go and hand out flyers on street corners advertising the game?

We don't ;) . Reviews should come rather soon.

I think from my first take on RUS start will be slow but the magical feeling you get as soon you begin to play with will flow over any related forums, by posts, AARs...

Guys, our best marketing agents are our player and satisfied customers.

Please, tell your fellow gamers and friends we have done a good job on a rare subject, and that this is a game worth buying and playing.

We had a small budget, so no big marketing campaign for us; and although we are targeting reviewers, word of mouth is vital for the game to succeed.
