Naval Guns and Defense

Sat Apr 03, 2010 6:47 am

If you have a fleet set to bombard, it is supposed to assist friendly units in the area. Some questions:

1. If the fleet is in a port in the same area as your friendly defenders, and is set to defend and bombard, will it aid the defense? Or does it have to be at sea/in the adjacent river?

2. Does a fleet set to bombard aid in defending all potential battles that turn? For example, if you have a fleet on a river with two defenses going on on oppositive shores. Does it aid both battles? Is there any limit to the numbers of fights it can affect with bombardment in the same turn?

3. Does it affect its ability to provide bombardment support if a fleet gets attacked by opposing naval units during the same turn?

4. Does it affect its ability to provide bombardment support if a fleet is itself bombarded the same turn by enemy land forces?

Thanks for any help here.

Hi!

I have the some problem: I cannot get my fleets to bombard. Confoderates are in Alexandria, I have fleets positioned in POtomac and POtomac Mouth, set to bombard.

However, I have received no messages so far that they have managed to do so.

Are there any specifics to bombard, in additon to set the button on 'bombard'? i.e. you can only bombard entrenched units, forts, bombardment only occurs while moving, must be set to offensive posture, etc.

I have searched the forums but have not found an answer.

Any help is appreaciated.

I think navies bombard only in support of amphibious assaults. I'm really not sure, though.

A fleet will only bombard in support to your troops, not on its own.

You can try a gamey trick : move your fleet back and forth in front of the ennemy force. If the force fires at you (because of entrenched artillery) your fleet will reply. But I don't think it's worth the damage you'll suffer.
