Beginner with some questions

Sat Apr 03, 2010 1:17 am

Played the original BOA when it first came out - have been away from it for a while and recently picked up WIA. I have a couple of questions.

1.It is Jan-Apr 1777 in the 1775 campaign game as the US - my issue is that I have continental units that are down to one strength point and will not recover - the militia and irregular units are fine - I saw a thread on this and the main piece of advice was to make sure they are supplied - I have checked this and the area they are in has plenty of supple (green on the supply filter) - one group is a small army in Philadelphia - big city with a depot and lots of supply - but the continental soldiers are all in red - I am using the 1.06e beta patch and read a post that alluded to a problem with an event called "Paper Money" - should I go back to an earlier patch? - just use 1.06 and not the beta - is there another problem I am not seeing?

2.Leaders - there has been some posts suggesting there is a file with all the leaders and their attributes - if so can someone steer me to this file - I have searched both the War in America directory and the Ageod forum and can't find it - also how can you tell if their special attributes only apply if they are the commander? - I have read through the appendix and it is rather vague on this issue

3.US Navy - I am not sure what I am supposed to do with it - the ships all seem like small warships not merchant ships - is their purpose to raid the shipping boxes? - can they stand up to the British fleet? - also do they need an admiral like land units need generals?

4.Is there a command to burn native villages, settelments and towns? - again I have seen posts allude to this (and the manual talks about a keyboard short cut to burn) but I have not seen this

5.Foreign Intervention -in my game I am accumulating it - it stands right now at 100 - I assume it has something to do with France coming in the US side - is there some number I need to achieve? - is there something I need to do to activate this?

That is enough for now - I am sure I will have other questions
Thanks for any help
Jack

Hi!

Will try some answers :)

1- You mean you are down to one element (missing the other 3) or that your continental elements are deeply "on the red"??
If the latter, letting them recovering on big cities/depots with enough supply and they will recover strengh. Bear in mind that they will not start recovering strength until they have his supply stocks at 100%. If your supply production and consumption is very near it can take several turns to completely replenish the units supply, and then starting to recover hits.
For full missing element you will need replacement of the adequate kind (check what you have on the ledger).
You can buy them using engagement points options and you will also receive some free ones from time to time. But they are not abundant. Its normal to have many of your regiments missing one or even two elements. Each winter your regulars will miss some elements as the soldiers go home, and recover them in spring, but usually more go home than return to teh regiment ;)

2- I don't think there is a leaders list available. For the abilities, check this link
http://www.leqg.org/doc/aacw/listability.php5
Its form AACW game, but most/all the abilities are common with WIA.
On appliance column you will find the info you look for.
Self: just the unit
Leader: only if the leader is commanding the stack
Group: its enough to be on the stack (no need to command it)
Unit: used on AACW divisions. I don't think its used on WIA
One recent change in WIA patches: now both training abilities work even if the leader is not the commander of the stack

3- Send your raiders to the boxes with evade combat on. Each turn they stay there they will give you engagement points that you can spend in cool options. Try to cover all boxes to get more points.
Soon or later they will get caught by the British navy. But if not killed right away you can send them back to port to refit. Oh and don't forget to check their supply or they will starve. Send them back to port form time to time to resupply.
To really fight against the British fleet you will have to wait for the French and spanish to arrive with Ships of the line.

4- Sure, its one of the buttons left of the units panel. You cannot burn towns, but can burn Indian villages, depots and forts.

5- If you have reached 100 the French and spanish will come in your aid. But it takes some time for them to arrive (don't recall how it works exactly). Around 1779 the french should be there IIRC. The spanihs arrive latter.
You will see several historic events messages about war declarations and the like. And meanwhile, they will send you aid (guns, supply wagons...)

Cheers!

Arsan

Thanks for the help

1- All my elements are there they are just deeply in the red - I have one group sitting in Philadelphia - it is a small group - the supply filter shows green and there is lots of supplies - but after months of sitting the elements are still red - I keep getting the Paper Money thhing and am wondering if that is setting them all to red - there are other cities like this - basically it is May of 1777 and I can do nothing but sit in cities hoping my strenght improves

2- This is exactly what I am looking for - thanks

3- Again thanks - one question - do I need the Admirals with the ships?

4- Thanks

5- Again thanks

Jack

The 'paper money' does have a bug in some of the beta versions, so that could explain the issue with your Elite Continentals.

New patch will be out soon.....

Thanks for the reply Lodilefty

I have reverted back to version 1.06 - not 1.06e - does this version contain the issue with "Paper Money"?

Thanks again

I think 1.06 is OK for paper money

{one of the beta versions had a problem processing Probability in the command used for paper money: everything was interpreted as 100% chance :blink: }

The new 1.07 version is out - does the "paeper money" bug occur in it?
