diminishing returns?

First off, I'd like to compliment the AGEOD team on creating what is without doubt one of the finest computer war games out there. With the 1.15 patch, I've become immersed once again in this classic.

My question is a simple one: When bombarding fortresses with naval elements, is the power cumulative? I have a huge force of Union ships--monitors, steam frigates, etc--trying to soften up the forts outside Charleston, but I'm wondering if I'm wasting the effort. Do larger naval forces bring commensurately larger destruction to fortresses, or should I stick to a smaller force of heavier ships?

Hi!

There is a max limit of hits a fleet can do in each bombardment to a land stack. Currently its 25 hits.
There is also a limit in how much hits a fleet can suffer from a land stack. Currently its 50. You can check this (and mod it if you want to) in the Bombard&Blockade.opt file in the settings folder on your AACW installation.
So, once you have a fleet big enough to land 25 hits, adding more ships won't have any effect... well, it will help in soaking the hits the land stack may do to you, but not in making more damage.
Of course you can do 2 o more separate fleets and do bombarding passes, each doing up to 25 hits... but beware, as each fleet may also take punishment form to forts up to 50 hits. ;)
Cheers!
