Something weird in Charleston siege

Sun Jan 31, 2010 9:27 pm

An english army (12 Command Points) is besieging an american force (11 Command points) inside Charleston for 2 turns.

Things seem weird when you know that english control is not going above 95% and because of this the whole american army was able to move outside the city (without leaving the region) during the third turn without triggering any combat :bonk:

Imagine several regiments digging trenshes and building redoubts around the city for two months and all of a sudden the complete insurgents force (several thousands men) manage to slip into the countryside without fighting and without loosing the control of the city  :tournepas

Worst : because of this move, the american player is able to break the effect of the siege (i.e. no supply).

So what's the point of besieging an ennemy if he can move outside the town, resupply and then move back behind the walls without fighting ? :cursing: :crying:

Must say I'm pretty disappointed because I planned carefully my campaign against Charleston.

Seems logical that 100% won't occur when there are still enemy troops controlling the city....

Hi!

Indeed, if i recall correctly, on sieges the 95% MC is the max you get until you take the city. Its looks normal to me
What seems strange is that the Americans didn't switched to offensive with just a 5% MC on the region. They should have initiated combat, don't they??
Are you sue you had 95%?? with less MC and defensive posture the besiegers can let the defenders slip out of the region... so its needed to keep offensive posture until you have the town completely surrounded (ie: 95%MC)
Cheers!

I really need the saved game with 1 turn prior [Backup1] to understand what is happening.

I see it, and don't understand it:

GBR sees Lee's Army as besieged inside Charleston

USA side has Lee's Army outside the fort, but 'locked' [Lee has "Overcautious" ability, which will lock him if he rolls dice under the % enemy MC = he will lock 95% of time in ths case]

Interestingly, when I back up, then execute your turns under 1.06d, the display is now correct, showing both armies outside the fort. There is no combat, as both sides are in 'defensive' and nobody moved.

I think we had another undiscovered [until now] bug in 1.06, but it is in the 'display', not the battle or combat system.

I'm running 1.06d, so this appears to be fixed therein....

Truly bizzarre, very confusing

Thanks a lot.

Given that GBR and USA sides did not see the same reality ;) was Lee's army suffering from siege effect (no supply) ? I'm asking this question because Charleston region has someting like 49 supply points and even with 95% control I (GBR) got no supply points (in the same situation in New-York region, I received more supply points when my control increased).

And is the 1.06 d version available ?

Lee appeared to be out of supply...

1.06e is available as Public beta as soon as it uploads and Pocus posts it.
1.06d Public beta is still available, but not for long... ;)
