Depot building time

Tue Oct 13, 2009 7:35 pm

When I start building a depot the tooltip says it's gonna take 15 days ... only I've never actually seen a depot completed within that time (1 turn). On the start of the new turn the tooltip will indicate anything from 1 to 10 days still left until completion. How so?

You got me Euer Höhheit, every time that I've built a depot and checked the next turn the tool-tip says that it will be completed in one day

That's what I usually see too ... but last time I looked I am certain it said 10 days. :)

Hi
I think its what orso sayes. It takes 15 days, but as the building starts on day 1, it isn't finished until day one next turn. So in reality it takes more that a full turn.
I haven't seen the 10 days thing, but i haven't played with 1.14 much :bonk:
Maybe you were constructing a fort by mistake??

Good grief! What a waste of good artillery that would be! :bonk:

I surely hope not. But in any case, on the other thing ... I do suppose the idea was that a depot *would* be constructed within one turn, or else why should it be exactly 15 days? So if it's always completed 1 day into the next turn, that surely can't be intentional? WAD, as they say?

Actually it's something I've wondered about before. The turns are two per month. Every month has either 30 or 31 day except for February, but your turns only have 14 days.

If you round out the calendar to have only 30 day months so that if fits to the game, then each turn would start either on the 1st or the 16th of the month.

So if on the 1st or 16th you issue orders to your troops to be carried out until completed and allow one day for the orders to reach the units they will only start following those orders an the 2nd or 17th of the month. Therefore the order to build a depot would start to be carried out on the 2nd and completed at the end of the 16th.

But on the 16th, when you start issuing orders again, your depot is still being build and will be finished only after you have issued orders for the coming turn, ergo the tool-tip says that your depot will be finished in one more day.

This would also mean that march orders stretching longer that two turns should reflect an actual 16 days of travel for each turn spanned by those orders. But I've never attempted to check that.

When it comes down to it, my troops are never fast enough anyway and wouldn't be even if the turn had 30 days ;)

Now if you want to know why a depot needs 15 instead of 14 days to complete, by which it would be operational at the start of the turn after issuing orders to build it, you'll have to ask that rascal Pokus :D

We felt a one turn delay was ok, but no big position here, this could have been 14 days...

I take it with a grain of salt. After all, as soon as they are built they are already pretty filled up with supplies which can make them handy at times.

You mean it's there the turn after you order it to be built?

Never was for me. There was always one day left. Of course, that was 1.10c. So maybe it has changed in the most recent versions. I shall see what happens in my new 1.14d game. :)
