. Yet, I was expecting better from Windows 7, after reading some reviews of the RC and the favorable experiences of some forumites (Nikel, Richfed), so I was indeed contemplating upgrading from XP to 7.
BUT... I just read, and it is official, that there will not be any way to upgrade from XP, the only option would be a clean install of 7 - meaning: formatting your system drive, installing 7, restoring your documents and... installing from scratch all your programs
.
Microsoft must be kidding. Of course we all know that an upgrade might go wrong, but denying this option is absurd and I fail to see a technical reason. After all, we all now, for example, how Apple works - just notice how seamless it was to upgrade our iPhones to 3.0 and compare it to this nonsense.
I for sure will not upgrade to Windows 7 unless I am forced to it (and this probably will only occur if some game that I really want would be only 7-compatible :wacko
, and I am pretty sure most of the home users of XP will also refrain from it. Not to mention the millions of workplace computers that have XP running without problems.
Is this the beginning of the end for Microsoft ?
