I'll check for replies on this, but this doesn't seem to be the busiest forum imaginable - somewhat puzzling. Is everyone waiting for 1.05?
Bought and installed 1.04c. Have played the '75 campaign as US up to Jan 1780. Played '76 as US for about eight turns. Opened a '78 campaign as US. Started a British '75 and what the heck, an 1812 overture as US.
Questions and comments:
* What the heck are the Naval Stores for in Philadelphia? I can see one element of Supply and three elements of Merchandise. Am I supposed to put these on the Transport and peddle them somewhere? Incidentally, these seem not to appear on the Roster.
* I read a thread about the 0/0 results with American privateers and commerce raiding. I can understand it if the elemental damage is so small it's not displayed, but, just for historical accuracy, I think a statement made in that thread is more than a little incorrect. Read Fletcher Pratt's The Navy (probably out of print) - American privateering played holy Hannah with British merchants in the Revolution and even more so in 1812. The modelling needs to be addressed in this particular case, I think. Again, do the research and I think you'll find that American commerce raiding was quite painful to British shipping.
* Is Boston a region, properly speaking? If so, why can Paul Revere not enter the town, or is that just a display issue? Why are American troops besieging Boston from Dorchester Heights (the region, not the physical reality - I'm from New England and am quite familiar with the events from April 75 to March 76)? Is the peninsula of Boston (no Back Bay then) considered to be so small that a battle ensues automatically, even when entering forces are Defensive?
* I don't see NM displayed in the Ledger for either side. Am I neglecting a tooltip?
* Do I have to move all allied troops or will they conduct some operations on their own?
* Will Canada actually join the Americans in any scenario, if the US is doing fantastically well?
* My '75 US game, now up to Jan 1780: what the ??? The British have made next to no effort, actually, really no effort to do a blessed thing. They just sit there in Quebec digging on the impegnable groove. The big excitement right now is to use the French to seize Quebec City and then Detroit for an automatic Win.
* The '76 US start is much more daunting - perfidious Albion is looking to put a hurt on me.
* '75 US again - lost Henry Knox's cannons to Winter (in fact, that march was made in the dead of winter, dragging cannons from Ticonderoga to Boston). shrugged, and dragged George & Co. from the Heights to Boston. British just left town, which is largely historical, but what happened? Did the British AI move elements out while I wasn't looking?
* '76 US, on the other hand - diametrically opposite. British are making a serious offensive push from Boston. Also have landed Cornwallis in Wilmington, NC.
Well, that's it for now. Oh, BTW - no Wiki? Also, where's the latest Beta patch, or is 1.04c as good as it gets right now? And is the community mod any later than 1.04c?
Thanks for all, and to all.
