Strategic rating of Division commanders important when in corps?

Fri Jun 26, 2009 1:22 am

Hi, new to the forum but been playing the game for awhile on my own. Awesome game. Anyhow, my question is this:

I understand the importance of the strategic rating of division leaders on their own - high strategic rating = more activation.

However, when a division is part of the corps, the corps as a whole is activated by the corps commander (in terms of being able to assume offensive stance, etc.). Does the strategic rating of individual division commanders have any purpose when said divisions are part of a corps?

I ask because in a game with heavy randomization I have a number of division commanders with ratings of, say, 5-1-1, and then some with 1-4-4. I wonder if the 1-4-4 commander is better when his division is part of a corps, and is thus activated by the corps commander's strategic rating.

Anyone know if strategic rating matters for divisional commanders in corps?

thanks!

The strategic rating only matters for the general commanding the stack, i.e. the rating of division commanders that are part of a corps doesn't matter.

IIRC, strategic rating also determines how many corps an army commander can have in his army.

If I understand things correctly the strategic rating of a division commander has an indirect effect.

If said commander goes inactive his division won't fight as effectively as if he were active, even inside the corps structure, where its commander is active.

Edit: Oops that wasn't what you were talking about.

IIRC the corps limit is the Army commander's strategic rating +6, but I haven't tested it so don't take my word for it.

Thanks for the responses... so the consensus seems to be that strategic rating does have some effect on division commanders, in that their divisions get penalties if theyre not activated... which would make sense to me, I suppose. Otherwise 0-4-4 division commanders would rock if you could get them to activate long enough to make a division with them. :)
