Rail Destruction

Thu Mar 26, 2009 8:25 pm

It appears that you can only order the distruction of an area's rail if you start the turn in that area. Is this correct?

Or, is it possible to order the destruction of rail in multiple areas in a single turn based on the unit's plotted move through those areas?

Regards,

You're right. You can only destroy or repair rail on the province you start.

That is my understanding as well. If you try to start it while on your own region, you will destroy your own rail before moving.

Yep - railroad raiding is a 2 turn endeavour: turn 1 move to area scheduled for ... environmental improvement. Turn 2, set unit to demolish tracks, and either bug out, or stay put... Means you have to end the turn in the area. Not unrealistic - stops you getiing too ambitious :)

It only takes 5 days to destroy rail, so you can move for the other 9. But your right, it does slightly limit the depth of your raiding.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but I would like to know if repair works the same way. That is, if you set a unit to repair and move, will it finish the repairs and then move for any remaining time?

yep thats right, but it doesnt move as far as the movment line indicates, it stands idle for a time first repairing the rail, then progresses on its journey, of course this repair time depends on if you have an engineer in your repair team or not.

it takes five days for a depot to be destroyed, but railroads get destroyed before the movement phase begins.
Quote General Lee Gettysburg movie,
"Do you see, General, there is the great trap, to be a good soldier you must love the army, to be a good commander you must be ready to order the death of the thing you love. We don't fear our death. But if this war goes on and on and the men die and the price gets ever high. We are prepared to lose some of us, but we are never prepared to lose all of us. We are adrift here in a sea of blood and I want it to end. I want this to be the final battle".
