Why no attack?

Sun Mar 08, 2009 2:47 pm

Hi there,

before I open again a thread at the normal forum I better do here and ask for a resolution.

My problem is that I don`t understand why Lee don`t attacks hamilton..I asked my enemy he said he has only Hamilton as corps leader, a division and a brigade and a supply car inside hamilton corps

So I don`t understand? Lee don`t see hamilton? or why he don`t attacks him in the last turn, I`ve set Lee on Attack position like you can see..Grey if you look at this game, it`s still the old password that I`ve sended you by an pm..attached is the last turn, my current turn and this Pic, Patch 1.13b

Regards

Hi
Seems like Lee stack is inside HF city. You have to drag him out of the city and put him in Harpers ferry region (outside teh city) for it to attack Hamilton and break hsi siege.
The stack will not leave the structure if you don't tell him to do it.
Can this be the problem??

Hi,

I will look when my enemy sends me the next turn this evening and then I will place Lee outside of HF..maybe it is because this..

It appears that Lee commands an Army, not a Corps.
The last I knew, an Army group cannot initiate combat.

I'm pretty sure it has to do with the fact that Lee's stack is "inside" Harper's Ferry. Army stacks...with no accompanying Corps WILL attack by themselves. At least they should.

Again, definitely try taking Lee out of Harper's Ferry and attacking. It should work.

+1
When alone, army stacks can initiate combats normally.
When accompanied by some of their corps they will only support them if engaged.
Judging by the screen shot, it seems to be simply a case of a stack not dragged outside the structure to break the siege.

I thought a force under siege could only come out (sortie) by pressing the leave structure button and then having a relief force come into the region from somewhere else.

No, the button is to coordinate with a relief force, and sortie and join the battle against the sieger when the help arrives.
You can always drag a defender force outside and attack or event drag them in passive and evade combat to try to escape. This last is better done with cavalry/irregulars. ;)
