3rd AK "The Hempsted Rifles"

Wed Mar 04, 2009 9:13 pm

I wasn't aware that Alaska was a State and fighting for the South. Although, I am sure that the South would have welcomed it.

Shouldn't it be "3rd AR "The Hempsted Rifles".

I just want to point out that AK is the abbreviation for Alaska. As far as I've seen, the other Arkansas regiments use the correct abbreviation of AR.

Or maybe I missed the message on the "Alaska Secedes" event. Of course that would be tricky since Alaska was part of Russia at the time. Maybe foreign intervention? :D

Beat you to it by about a week, CptCav :D

Don't you watch the History Channel?

Hempstead is a Russian word meaning "detached province".
The Hempstead Rifles were a vicious mercenary band based in Alaska (the Tsar wouldn't allow them to live on the mainland because he accused them of being too brutal and cold-blooded). I think the CSA hired three regiments of the Hempstead Rifles to join their cause but unfortunately only the 3RD AK Hempstead Rifles completed the long and dangerous route- the other two were lost in the mountains and snow. The Hempstead leadership vowed revenge against the Tsar for sending them during the depths of winter- but before they could get satisfaction- Russia sold Alaska to the USA in 1867 and the mercenaries weren't able to get travel visas!

By rerunning that particular turn with some debugging features turned on, hopefully the specific event that brings it in to being will be named. At that point I can go into the files and find what spawns the name.

The game will be in its own folder within the ...ACW/Saves/... folder. Just zip up that specific folder with "Include Subfolders" checked.

It's 13.7 MB zipped. I am not sure that that size of file will go out over my server, but I am willing to try. Otherwise, I can break it down into smaller packets (i.e. per turn backup). Where do I send it?

I've been using them for various download links for just this reason... You can use them (for free) for any file up to 100 MBytes in size

Okay. I will try to do that tomorrow night.

I'm surprised the typo can't just be fixed in the units database. The 3rd AK Hempstead Rifles is a flavor name for Arkansas volunteers, UID #147. I guess I figured these flavor names were just chosen at random when a unit appears -- are the flavor names actually dictated in the events for the scenario?

Gray_Lensman wrote:The first report of this by you Major Tom, referred to this unit as "Hempstead" A global search thru all the database files for "Hempstead" yielded nothing. At that point, I was predisposed to looking for "Hempstead". Along comes cptcav, who correctly does spell it exactly as the in-game spelling "Hempsted" and I overlooked it having already spent quite a bit of time searching for it previously under your incorrect "Hempstead" bug report.

I've now found it so it is in the process of being corrected.

Sorry about the spelling error. I didn't even notice that when I search for it in the database becasue I jsut searched on "hemp"
