War Plans

Thu Nov 20, 2008 6:46 pm

I have some questions on war plans. I started playing the 1914 campaign as the axis and didn't make a war plan. So my questions:

1) What kind of penalties did I incur in by not selecting a war plan? I bascially forgot and nothing in the interface reminded me, not that it should have. It's already Nov 1914 and so German and A-H have no war plans.

2) Is there good documentation on war plans or can you explian it a bit?

Thanks so much. I'm learning more each day and besides a few crashes and AI issues (in future patchs from what I hear) this game is really the best WWI game for the computer I've seen yet! Kudos!

PS: the crashes kind of suck because I lose the mouse pointer and have a hard time clicking(use keyboard) out of the windows xp pop-up that is the result of the crash. The standard pop-up that ask me if I want to send the bug to MS. Guessing it video related, but seems to happen with AI working. I can send my dxdiag info if that helps?

I think certain War Plans are chosen by default. For example, if you don't elect to use a different plan for Germany, the Von Scheiffen plan is in effect.

Default war-plans are the historical ones of course.

For the crashes, I need to know if you have them only with sounds on.

Yes, I guess in all cases it's with sounds on. Because I've never had sounds turned off from the config. If you are suggesting that is where the issue might be coming from, I will turn them off from the config? Or is there another place to turn them off besides running the config program?

By sound do you mean sounds effects and music? They are both on and have always been.

So for my war plans what happens if I don't meet objects? Do meet objectives? Also, I think for the war plan armies you get some better stacking or some HQ bonuses? I had the schielfen plan, but I'm not sure if I reached my objectives? How long do I have for the war plan before it expires? When do I make another war plan???

Like I said, this is a very gray area for me. So any documentation or further help on war plans would be much appreciated.

Yes, please launch the WW1 Configurator (Start menu > World War One > Configure Game) and disable both sounds and musics, then tell me if you have still crashes.

Warplans determine the starting setup of your armies (where they are with which units), your National Will, number of events drawn, wether some of your armies get to move in Early August (pre-turn) and can also possibly set mandated offensives for certain armies.
Your selection can also influence the NW and event draws of other major powers.

You also get to choose up to two Options like Good Morale, extra ammo, or giving Tirol to Italy in exchange of cooperation.

But the game is not forcing on you anything else, like long term objective spaces or somesuch. The public's evaluation of your performance will be handled through National Will. ;)

So when do you change your war plans? For example I start the 1914 campaign with the schliefen plan and haven't changed anything(cause I didn't know). Now it's Nov 1914 and what should I do about my plans? Do you change the every year or??

OK I think I now know my confusion. I have Grand Offensives mixed up with war plans. So all my past questions were actually related to Grand Offensives.

This is the area that is most confusion to me. But there was a post on it recently that helped.
