Small Unit Models

Wed Nov 12, 2008 9:47 am

Hi folks, I’m playing around with small unit models. I have 3 hit, 20 men per hit Indian models with the units having only 1 element and they keep getting wiped out to the man in battle against similarly weak British forces. 7 Indian units of 420 men in total against a similar number of British forces. No Indians left on map after short battle.

Would 4 hit 15 men or 6 hit 10 men fare any better?

Or 2 hit 15 MPM or 3 hit 10 MPM with 2 elements?

I’ll try these combinations out but if anyone has any experience here please let me know. Any pitfalls you can see with models representing very small units?

Thanks, Chris

Forget this for the moment, I'm talking rubbish!

I'll come back to it when I get home.

nah, can't forget ;)

I think you need more hits [less men per hit]

Hits are the only thing the game engine 'sees'. So an 'element' [model] with only one hit is going to get eliminated very very easily.... by almost any opponent..
Always ask yourself: "Am I part of the Solution?" If you aren't, then you are part of the Problem!

Yes, I think I may keep the hits the same but either increase them for the larger models or make the scenario company sized and have more units for the larger models. All of whom would have reduced MPH. A bit of a pain as I will have to create quite a few new models. I'm worried that if I end up with units with 4* the number of hits that may also cause problems!

I tried a few experiments tonight and it seems the way to go is to give small units the same number of hits as they have at the moment but make the MPH smaller for cosmetic realism. The larger units I will split into company rather than battalion or regiment level units.

This will produce a few oddities as I will have to have more than one Militia
unit to represent Militia in certain areas for example.

1st New York Militia
2nd New York Militia
3rd New York Militia

If anyone can provide a better naming convention please let me know. 1/New York Militia, 2/New York Militia I suppose?

Cheers, Chris
