Scenario Balance

Wed Sep 24, 2008 7:53 pm

Hi folks, I've posted a note or two in the past about scenario balance but have never recieved much of a response but I do think it's a subject that should be very important so I thought I may as well make the point again. I have been playing the Campaign Series of games now for about 8 years and I think one of the finest features of the forum we have there is that people have been posting their results for years so you can pick scenarios that are well balanced (or play a weaker or less experienced opponent and know which side the scenario favours) :-

http://www.theblitz.org/scenarios/index.php

The results posted are for PBEM only and the forum operates on a ladder system but it doesn't have to be so involved for AGEOD. A simple sticky where players could post their results in each game forum against the AI or a human would suffice (or a general thread). If a scenario is repeatedly shown as being won by one side it could quickly be rebalanced by changing a few objective values. This has kept me playing CS for so long and I think it would benefit AGEOD in the long term to make sure the scenarios are well balanced. I think there is a missed opportunity here to get player feedback easily that would help everyone.

Cheers, Chris

I think this is a good idea. So why not create a simple "Post your scores" sticky and see what happens? :)

I can create a sticky? I assumed I would need Raf like powers to create such a thing?

Sorry, my post was not meant to implicate that you own such powers (which I lack too), but rather a proposal to an unnamed person who is that mighty. :neener:

This might work in conjunction with creating a database for player ratings.
Here's a link to the thread for a discussion, if you're interested.

Please make sure that you access and link these forums using http://www.ageod.com. Using other addresses (like e.g. http://www.birth-of-america2.com) will cause intermittent weirdness :)
