Army Names

Wed Jul 16, 2008 1:41 am

my armies are no longer named after their commanders. they are now named generically, like leaderless stacks (I Continental Army, III Continental Army etc.) instead of Putnam's Army, Arnold's Army etc. is this how it is supposed to be in the new game?

any help is appreciated.

Pete

I would actually subscribe that. I would much prefer e.g. Arnolds Force instead of XX Continental army and the roman number changing everytime I move a unit.

Ditto! It would give the game more flavour, though I have to admit that wherever there is Washington it would be nice to have it labeled as the Continental Army.

Wonder what happend? You can do that in BOA, so perhaps its supported in BOA2.

In BOA you could modify the names of all your armies/forces. They had strings for them in the Local Strings CSV file for each leader.

In my game (BOA), anyone who was a 2 or 3 star general would get Army appended to their name (i.e. Lee's Army).

For 1 star generals and below, I used Force (i.e. St Leger's Force).

Also, you can modify, the default name, which is used for anything without a leader. Here you modify the faction file (fac extention) for the nation in question.

I agree with all.

We'll put it on the list.

[my first quick try to duplicate the text strings from BoA didn't work,so I must dig some more. Don't expect anything quickly, especially if it requires us to 'invoke Pocus spell' to fix :niark: ]

Thanks for looking into it.

although it is more or less aesthetic, i did like the flavor it added to the game.

Definitely agreed that it would be nice to have a fix for the name issues!
Thanks, lodilefty.

In the faction file you should have 5 entries:

ForceName
HQStackName
DetachName
LeaderForce
FleetName

It should work like this:

HQStackName: A corps stack (AACW/NCP)
LeaderForce: Any force with a leader
ForceName: Any force without a leader with more 4 CP
DetachName: A force without a leader with 3 CP (in usage) or less.
FleetName: Any Fleet

The entry can either be of this format: Exp. Force, or this one ¤'s Exp Force.

When there is a ¤ and a leader, the leader name is used: Burgoyne Exp. Force. When there is no leader, you will get a numeric before, like III. Exp. Force.

Almost! It works with a minor bug:

A leader that is alone [no troops] still shows as 'Green's Army' [for example], not 'Nathanael Green'

A unit [example '1st Militia'] still shows it's name when alone... :tournepas

?? is it looking at Stack CP available rather than stack CP required?

Pocus' post talks about the CPs of the leaders, so I'd interpret that to mean CP available. :)

I'll have to double check that then.

Often times in BoA, when units were merged as part of the turn processing, the commanders name was lost and it changed to 'Continental...'. It may just be as simple as grabbing the leader and dropping him into the stack again.

Though I have not downloaded the game yet. (To-do later...)

Fleets with a leader are showing up as "Yeo's Army"
I tried puting the "¤'s" with FleetName, but it didn't work:
Still get "Yeo's Army", but also "IV. ¤'s Fleet"

Is there a "FleetLeaderForce" entry? [I tried this, didn't work :( ]

...or is it time to cast another "Invoke Pocus"? :king:
