Of Railroads, Infrastructure and Supply..

Sat Aug 18, 2007 9:33 pm

As I am going about this modifiction of the existing region graphics to remove ahistorical RRs, when I install them I am struck by the strategic position of the South and how it changes!

How much more important now are those critical multi-rail junctions to movement. You cannot just entrain your boys and skirt an extra region or two out of the way of that Union force - no, sir! In fact, that railhead might likely be the only connection westward (or eastward). It is intriguing, and those who like to play as CSA, I think, will find it a harder game. Great!

Now to the supply issue. As I understand it, supply is pushed forwards to the front, and is affected by RRs or the lack thereof (Correct me if I am wrong, guys). Well, then - you can be sure that with a decreased amount of RRs in the east-west direction (as the CSA), supply will become a more pressing need. :p leure: <-- I can hear that now....

But it is as it should be. The CSA route should be very tough from a logistical standpoint. Just wanted to mention that as I am perceiving how the adoption of a historical RR network will affect the game.

On to another issue... I am of the mind that the industrial infrastructure that can be built - the ' rating capacity' for each state - for the South is too high. Hold on - I'm not asking AGEod to change that. But what I would like to do is alter my own files so that the states rate as follows (bear in mind these are for my own files):

Average:
Virginia
Georgia

Below Average:
Tennessee
North Carolina
South Carolina
Louisiana

Poor:
Texas
Florida
Alabama
Mississippi
Arkansas

So if anyone knows where I can find these values, I would be greatly appreciative. And any comments on the RR impact are always welcome.

I believe these values are determined by the average size of cities within the state. Hence Wisconsin and Delaware's high ratings. I don't believe they directly affect the industrial infrastructure that can be built.

Also, don't forget that Northern RR's will eventually be edited as well. We just don't have as much research done on that. The raiding situation in the Northwest will probably improve.

My understanding of the concept (the manual doesn't really reveal much) is that it affects the chance that industrial output will improve in practical terms (WS, Gen supply, ammo). For example, if I select Georgia by itself, I often get an improvement or two each turn for quite some time. If I select a poor state, I might get one every other turn, and less often are they WS.

That's just been my experience.

Since we can't directly affect the way WS produced are delivered to pertinent infrastructure that could use them (roads and RRs) - note how something in deep Arkansas can be used so quickly at, say, Tredegar Iron Works - I would guess that production status is the only way we can go about getting any semblance of historical status concerning Southern industry.

So I'd like to see if these values are editable, and see how that affects my games.
