Moving w/o orders

Sat Jan 15, 2011 1:40 am

First off, I'd like the AGEOD staff to know that I'll send saves when I can so they can look into this if they need to. For now I wanted to ask other players if they've seen anything else like this: So many of my units are moving on their own without orders that I have had to stop the game and consider re-installing. My artillery reserve up and left DC (I'm playing Union vs. AI) and headed for Fredericksburg, my divisional generals (all in a group I created) decided to walk to Maryland, etc. I assumed that I must have made an error in giving orders, but it kept happening turn after turn, with different units and different cities (Halleck took off on his own into Missouri!).

Like I said, I'll be saving and posting when I have a chance (maybe next week), but this is so darn weird that I had to ask out of sheer confusion. Also, nobody else seems to have posted on this.

Gray, how do I re-install a download? I have the serial number.

EDIT: Never mind, I remember now. I sent PhilThib a private message with my purchasing data.

Really, that's something I had not seen before. It is certainly very strange.

Rexor, has that happened in previous games?

Hey Ethan, you and I are now talking in two different threads! Anyway, it has never happened before, and I think Gray is right that there must be something wrong with the files because nobody has ever posted with anything like this before.

OK, I've done a clean re-install and the problem is still present. In fact, it's gotten worse. I feel that, having exhausted my options, I need to send some saves to AGEOD for them to see so nobody thinks I'm going crazy. Right now the game is unplayable.

How do I send saves to you? I have the present and previous turn saves of the game in question.

The only things I can think of are...

1) Maybe when you drag a stack or a tab to move to a location, you are accidentally dropping it on a waypoint or another stack and they are trying to follow them.

2) Are you trying to play both sides or loading the other side to look at/change any of their orders? This may cause the game to generate new orders while you are on the other side.

I thought #1 was a possibility, especially as I'm running on a Mac laptop with Parallels, which makes the game a little jerkier than when I was playing on a PC desk top. Nothing serious, just a little to get used to. But I've been very careful and have ruled that out (at least I think I have).

I never play both sides, so that's not it. Since installing on this new computer (and re-installing), I have played only the union.

Could it be that my re-install wasn't clean enough?
