Battlefield Units

Mon May 25, 2009 8:19 pm

I'm playing the 1775 Campaign as the US, and a Continental detachment with a general got hit by a slightly stronger British force in Providence.

They were completed routed, even tho I was in a standard defensive position.
I checked the details of the battle, and it said that I had 4 subunits on the battlefield, and the British had 13 subunits.

Why is that?
I was almost equal in power, so I should have had nearly equal power on the battlefield.
Enlightenment welcomed.

Subunits mean elements. The little NATO icons you see on the right bottom corner of the screen when you have a unit selected.
Normally a full strength infantry unit have 4 elements. irregulars and Indians use to have 2.
Cheers

arsan, thanks for the response.

My question is, why did I not have the same number of elements on the battlefield as the British?
I was almost equal in overall strength, I it seems I should have been equal on the battlefield. But I was outgunned 13-4.
Is there something I could have done to make the battlefield elements more equal?

I can hardly tell as i don't know how the battle was. Post some screen shots and give some detailed info and maybe i can get whats happening... :)
Maybe you have part of your force inside a city?? Or you have several different stacks on the region and some of them didn't engage or withdraw before battle??

The strength of a given element can vary widely, depending on hits, cohesion, and a number of other factors.
