Lions, Tigers and Generals, Oh My!

Fri Aug 22, 2008 5:59 am

I'm still learning the mechanics of the game.

I'm playing as the Union, and was wondering what you guys do in the first few turns or so, as far as sorting all your Leaders (1-3 Star Generals) to plan ahead for creating Divisions, Corps and Armies from East to West across the map.

I'm especially looking for ideas on where and how many of certain ranks of Generals you relocate to and where.

At game start, of course, most Generals are based in and close to Washington DC. There is a large number, especially, of 1 Star generals. There must be 20-30 of these guys. Do you creat Divisions with all possible, or do you use some to `buff' other container stacks?

Also, any tips on making the most of the interface to make working with units and stacks easier I would greatly appreciate.

Thanks!

It's been discussed a number of times - here are some of the better threads:

1. Runyons' thread called AACW 101; and
2. Stacking vs merging here
3. Removing leaders here
4. Using leaders attached to brigades here

Try the search function and look up "Leaders" or "Divisions" to see what others have been doing.

Personally I immediately split them into two groups: I ship a batch of them west to form units in the Midwest (Illinois, Ohio and Kentucky); and keep about half or 1/3 on the east coast to use where the troops get formed up.

You won't have enough units (infantry, cav and artillery) to make divisions for all the generals so use only the best ones for combat roles, use others with special skills in appropriate places, and give the crappy ones a sack lunch and a water pistol and tell them to go scout the rebel armies.
