Not quite AWOl, as i believe that is handled abstractly in the normal attrition calculations? (Not quite sure) However militia units will disband and reelist as time goes on. And yes, leaders can be killed or wounded

Yes, so you better use carefully your best leaders. :indien:

a note on that: for safety reasons and gameplay balance, most of the time when a leader is killed, he is supposed to be wounded and will be redeployed in a strategic town under your control in the State where he suffered the injury.
One of the main difference between BoA and many others games is that leaders are physically in the region they command, as a unit, and not just a portrait attached to an army. You can't just teleport Washington from Boston to Charleston by detaching-attaching him for example. Also when say Cornwallis is trapped in Yorktown, you will have to evacuate him by sea or take the gamble of sending him alone thru the enemy lines, if you want him elsewhere. In case of an assault, he will be amongst the casualties otherwise. We felt it was more realistic and fun compared to the alternate system in usage in many others games.

I've only tinkered with the game for a couple of evenings so far, but I have seen new units of militia raised and disbanded. Leaders can and will be killed and wounded. It seems a leader of rather poor ability is better than no leader at all.

indeed. Without command you get very big penalties (up to 50% reduction to movement and combat effectiveness)

Yep... it is NOT wise to do that. :niark:
