This is my first attempt at a preWWII game. I'm having difficulty playing the demo and the tutorial is a bit...lacking. If someone could please do a very descriptive AAR for the demo so that I can learn to love the game; I would be more tempted to support (buy) the game. As of right now I really can't get into it.

I agree.

D/L demo and found it lacking to say the least.

I did get a feeling for the interfaces and did read thru the instruction manual(BTW-very well done).

But as to the "sense" and feel for the game...and the promising dynamics described by the instruction manual...well, the demo was woefully inadequate. Did not convince me to buy the game!

I'll continue to monitor the board, look for AAR's and check out future reviews.

I hope the demo does NOT do justice to this promising game.

MY BAD...

After reading a new posting on the board about playing the demo...I found that I had "overlooked" the 12 turn scenerio provided with the demo.

My previous post was solely based upon the tutorial! :bonk:

If I decide to purchase WIA, I'm sure I'll have no problem finding PBEM opponents in the future!!!

Hi!

This very detailed and nice AAR

Is not about the tutorial, ia about the 1812 war scenario, but it serves very good to give a feeling of the game.
Regards!

Guys, I know exactly how you feel. When I first played the ACW demo I was puzzled about what is going on.

But the thing is, you cannot judge these games before you understand how they work. My advice is to do what I did, just let it flow for a while and see what happens. After a while it begins to make sense and then the fun begins. Promised!

A good idea is to the approach situation like a real supreme commander, not like playing a strategy game. Make out objectives and move armies accordingly, then you will see what went wrong, and maybe you will have some successes right away (yes it works that way). Don't try to master the game before you understand the rules.

I cannot judge the quality of the demo, but I found the ACW demo lacking without a preview of the grand campaign - which is the heart of this game - and tried to get ageod officials aware of that. Playing pre-set 4 turn scenarios is not very motivating imo.

I'm pretty sure the AACW demo had the grand campaign included, restricted to something like 12 turns?

I am pretty sure it had not?

You could not purchase units and enter the political options screen, and that's what makes the game enjoyable for me.

Can we settle that we are both right? The demo had no unit and politic options screen so with 12 turns it played exactly like a scenario. And I think it was limited to the Western campaign.

Really, i can't recall how was the demo at all, but by reading the features description made by Pocus back then it seem it had 2 tutorials, one scenario and 12 turns of the full campaign with all features except winterized terrain... :bonk:
Cheers

On this one (WIA) or on that one (AACW)... or on both?
This is beginning to get confusing! :niark:

I *think* both, but don't bet any money on it, especially in a while ;)

Rafiki is right. Both demos have a 12 turns campaigns, all features but winterized bitmaps and replacements.

The new WIA demo being released will have both winterized bitmaps and replacements though.
