Destroying Depots and Movement

Sun Apr 13, 2008 2:25 pm

Playing CSA for the first time. Unlike Athena, who conveniently always left depots intact for the Union to capture free gratis, I'm destroying depots. However, the process of doing that leads me to a question: It says it takes 5 days to destroy a depot. That leaves 10 days - if I click on that function, can I move out of that region the same turn and still have the depot destroyed?

Yes you can. But if your units are engaged with enemy units in the area before destroying it, the attempt can fail, because they're likely to fight and move out of region.

PS: It can take more than 5 days to destroy the depot.

destruction/repairing orders take place before any movement order you issued. So you can issue the order and also move, the troops will first destroy/build/repair and then move.

As Evren points out, it can take more than 5 days and if you're attacked in the meanwhile...eh eh eh

Re: another good point for the 7-day turns lol :)

I as CSA destroy depots - destroy and move depots and RR is one of my favoured tactics - especially if I see a large yank force coming my way and reckon I cant hold. I never yet seen Athena rebuild a depot though?

Correct. The point is that with CSA athena is defensive so it's playing home and correctly forwards supplies. This is good because as CSA buying a supply cart is really a huge expense.

With Union, Athena has an unlimited source of $$$/WS which allows it to buy supply carts (and it still correctly forwards supplies so it advances perfectly well).

Athena definitely knows rebuilding a depot costs much more than capturing one...what it doesn't know is that when it captures one and it's not sure if it can be held or not, that depot should be destroyed. These are the typical deep thinking options only humans get to...
