K: So those of us who own BoA will get a discounted price for BoA II? That is how it was marketed to me. Is this no longer the case? :p apy:

Go Galvez Go!!! :niark: What a stats he have!!
Thanks Hok! :coeurs:
The map looks great!... and by looking at the minimap it will also be huge! :coeurs:

But it seems you need some spanish spell checker for the Galvez army names... :siffle:

It's "Ejercito" not "Escercito", "Voluntarios" not "volunteros"...
If i can help checking the spanish names, let me know. I will be pleased to help :cwboy:

Wow thats a massive map! Looks good too. I just wonder, can we recruit new troops this time?

Just a thought, wouldn't spelling variants have existed in the 18th century?

Hi!
Yes, on medieval and renaissance times certainly there were different spellings for many words on spanish. But, from what i know, on the end of the XVIII century spelling was already very similar to the one used today.
Of course they used words then that are seldom used today, but spelling has not changed much.
Still, i will ask my girlfriend who has studied Spanish Philology and will be very happy explaining to me much more about all this that i would want to hear :p leure: :niark:

Anyway, I think “Escercito” is the italian word for Army, not the Spanish one :sourcil:

Yes, although the system will very different from AACW as the period is historically different (no organised war economy, no organised supply lines, etc.).

But Americans should be able to choose between recruiting new regiments or buying some guns from the French for example. :cwboy:

Will the Oneida and Tuscarora Tribes (As well as Some Creeks) be allied with the Americans in the new game? They were in reality allied with the Continentals, however in the first BOA they are allied with the British.

Oneida Warriors fought with General Herkimer at Oriskan.

This is planned...an event with Samuel Kirkland has been submitted some months ago by players, and it could trigger this alliance. :indien:

Latest teaser looks beautiful. I am looking forward to a fun summer. :)

Is there other changes ?
The French and Americans were done beautifully for their uniforms as well as the 1812-1813 but the seven years war British were badly treated (it was the same 1775-1783 uniforms). :indien:
The British should have gaiters like the French in 1754-1763, and the british should have soldiers with their famous mitre-cap (ok this is only the grenadiers) but these British Grenadier are so beautifull. The Royal-American (fighting with the British) had also a mitre-cap. It would give more flavour since those soldiers (with mitre) are represented in all books about the seven years war. I would like diversity for the British.
Sorry i have no scan, if i had one i would have posted those British grenadiers.
And yes i'm French :niark: and yes i like the men wearing mitre-caps. :fleb: and no ... i'm not intereted with the Pope's mitre-cap. :niark:
More seriously i can't afford the new BoA, it was my best experience in PC wargaming since Age of rifles and Steel Panther, the IA was very good, the only drawback was if a decisive battle occured in which the ennemy was destroyed the game had not much suspens.
Now if morale is included like AACW an NC then there will be no longer any suicidal battles and it should be a subtle cat and mouse game as it was in the XVIII century until the end of the game.

boa battles

Mon Mar 24, 2008 1:51 pm

hi

i bought boa the day it went live for dl and played since very enjoyable game. however the battles feel somewhat flat and give little to the imagination. are there any plans for boa 2 which make them more rich, more battle report details, medals awarded, heroic deeds metioned, pictures/animations of troops fighting and the like.

Any chance there will be more leader traits in BoA2? I always found that very little justice was done to the British leaders in this respect in BoA. Most have no special traits at all, which makes them rather generic and boring ... and some have traits obviously missing that they should have, such as Wm. Howe who was apparantely considered a master of light infantry tactics after having led Wolfe's LI in the French & Indian War. It wouldn't have to be quite so many as in NCP, but a few more would make the game more interesting. :)

My suggestion is simple then...take the leader's list from BOA, and let us know which traits we could assign (if / when different of the existing ones).

You can use the traits that already exist for Napoleon's Campaigns as a basis. If something very interesting and important shows up and is not in our existing traits list, mention it too...might be worth considering if we have free code time for it (hmmm :niark: )

You mean I can't just wish? :D

Fair enough, I guess. However, I am hardly a specialist for this conflict. It's just that I believe this is worth pursuing. Afterall, there is an obvious increase in leader traits between BoA, where many leaders have none, over AAWC, where most have one and some two or three, to NCP, where hardly any higher leaders have less than four! It's an extremely interesting concept that has evolved over time here. It makes leaders unique personalities and the choice as to who to appoint to a command position much more complex. I doubt that leaders in the F&IW and ARW were any less complex personalities than their Napoleonic Wars or ACW counterparts. :)

Is there a chance we just open a thread where we invite contributions from the community in this respect? :o

For a goood start:

http://www.ageod-forum.com/showthread.php?t=6092

This slows the rampant British stampede a bit. Replacements may be different it WIA anyway. :innocent:

I've got a version that builds on this with abilities, including 'Non-Militiaman' which does the opposite of Militiaman. Models the disdain that many British [and Charles Lee] had for militia.....

I see. Guess it's too late then.

I wish I had read more on the ARW earlier. I am only into 1776 by now ... :innocent:

But two things that stuck with me, so far: Shouldn't the performance of both Howe and Carleton in 1776 earn them the trait "slow mover"? Carleton's advance from Canada would probably also qualify for "overcautious" (waiting four weeks to build a ship when one already outnumbers the rebel fleet by 2 to 1?). Judging from Howe's action around N.Y., he should probably also get something like "entrencher" or "siege expert". He seemed to like to dig parallels whether there was use for them or not, but he *did* do well against forts. Finally, as I said before, he was apparantely known as a notable light infantry commander from the French and Indian War, so maybe "irregular fighting skill" or "screener" would reflect that?

Just a few thoughts. I'd bow to everyone more knowledgeable. :o

AACW fan, Should I buy BoA or just wait for BoA2

I am really enjoying AACW, but would be interested in Birth of America. Should i find A copy of it or just wait a couple of months for BoA2?

Supply lines

Sat Apr 12, 2008 6:37 pm

I agree about the no organized War economy, but yes to supply lines. 18th century warfare was based on the Depot system. Thats why so many wars were just seiges of this or that town. In North America the British followed this line of thinking thats why they kept capturing towns. While their goal should have been the American Army.
