Ship bombardment in support

Fri Nov 09, 2007 10:10 pm

I have recently noticed that the AI often gets support by its ironclads during land combat and i've done all possible combination of moves to end up supporting my troops as well.

The AI seems pretty good at this job. In the combat recap screen i often see Ships being involved in combat but i've never seen this happening to me with ships bombarding enemy on my side and i've tried hard.

Ships do bombard passing ships, they engage travelling troops or other ships but i've never seen my ships in the combat screen while i see the enemy ships along with HQ, INF, CAV, ARTY etc etc.

Any clue?

Come to think of it I don't think I have ever seen my ships show up in the battle log either but in 1.06 at least there was a message about ships bombarding whatever unit and how many hits landed. I used it effectively in a peninsula compaign of my own. Not sure about 1.07f since I have just upgraded to it.

I'm thinking that probably this has to do with the ships being in the port. When you attack that city the ships in the port will fight as well. So in order to see my ships fighting, id' have to have them in port.

The bombardment in support of friendly troops doesnt' happen...i've tried many times. I'd like to know more on the subject.

if you see the NATO symbols without colored background, it means the element is there but don't participate.

You can only support your troops if you are landing if I recall well.
