Voluntary Restrictions?

Tue Aug 14, 2007 3:24 am

What restrictions do you place on yourself when playing?

For example, when playing the earliest Campaign game as the Union I wonder if I should do any recruiting in the first turns or rely upon scripted events?

I also wonder how reasonable it is to remove militia units from their native states, or whether removing the Union garrisons from the western mega-regions (Rockies, California, etc.) is reasonable.

Do you assign divisional leaders using seniority only, or do you consider their stats?

I leave army/corp/divisional leaders in place until I have a reason to remove them (lost battle, failed activation, general lack of success, etc)

I don't have any problem removing the Regular Army units from the west, historically they were (and were replaced with Militia's).

I do launch the Late-July/August Union offensive in Virginia as historically I would have been pressured to do (even though it doesnt serve any strategic purpose since you can't really follow it up properly).

I would like to be proper in assigning signal corps to each corp but they're to expensive for that.

I avoid ridiculous raids, like sending McCullough as the confederacy with 6 cavalry regiments to loot the Midwest in the Spring of 1861.

Similar to LSSpam, I basically do things according to the 'rules' like keep those in command, in command until they fail.

Promote those to army command based on seniority (no sneaking around Halleck to another front in order to get Grant as an army commander quickly).

Don't confuse the AI by doing drastic things with raids (like load troops on boats and raid far to their rear).

Follow event suggestions as much as possible (attack when the pressure is to attack, etc.).
