Usually lost leaders have been wounded and are inside a nearby city locked so you cannot find them easily. You can search as if you are looking for locked units to find them or just look for cities which have a number indicating forces inside.

The ledger should be able to list stacks with leaders

after ive lost jackson johnson and other diverse commander, ive decided to go on, wich ive done.
truely after many month we fought until yet a good fight; even the union has more the 2/3 more of manpower to present, acctualy.

late august 1863;
same think happens against my force, east front. Lee (corps commander) inside a city south of happers ferry, entrenched level 7 / 20.000 good man/ left the battelfield completly after a small engagement....

(im close about to cancel his game)
these are a few very good generals wich are needed.....

as you may have read the last entrie, as i tryed to discibe about the lose of the stack of R.E.Lee wich inccludes 17 units.
i scrolled in the info boxes, in hope to find anythink wich could explane the lost of such corps.
there was such entrie in the info box.

"""we surrendered to the U.S in the region warren,VA losing 17 units. the enemy gains 208 VP / and we lost 2 NM points"""

so looks like i have to proceed, such dilema happens.....

Do not defend inside of cities. Defend on top of the city with maybe a very small garrison inside.
If you units are inside a city and must retreat, they surrender and are eliminated. If your units defend outside the city, they will retreat normally.
Think of it this way: at Vicksburg the forces were 'inside' the city and could not retreat and so surrendered. Lee's army at Gettysburg was 'outside' the city and could retreat.

yes it was a mistake, afterwards. this happens twice in that game i play acctualy.
a huge amont of good generals, and a great number of trained soldiers.
this shouldnt happen; im close to reach 1864 and it is very hard to push back the union. nearly inpossible in the east.
