Is there anyway to play EAW in a hot seat mode?

Easier than you can imagine. Just log in, play your turn, hand the computer to your opponent. Let them play the turn by logging as the opposing side. Run the turn.
A delightful feature of all AGEOD games is you can play all factions solo. Same deal applies to hot seat play. Just take turns.

Thanks Durk; I have tried it and see how it is done.

Any advice as to how run "run" the turn?

When you hit run the turn plays from the perspective of the player who hits run. I would think both players should not see the turn run, as this would provide information to the other side.

Or am I overthinking this?

I live in a place where playing 'hot seat' is only a theory, not a practicality.

But what I would do is take turns running the game. Central Powers and Entente trade off. The Entente can further decide if the east or the west is more crucial. You are right that you would reap an intelligence bonanza.
Incidentally, this would be very much like shared hosting a pbem game.
