My first take is that I thought it would be more lopsided, but mme. de Renal seems to have benefited from a large turnout of voters not reflected in the public opinion polls. The coming legislative elections will be crucial.

I sense trouble ahead. I hope that Sarkozy is strong enough a leader to deal with it successfully.

I wish him, and the French people well.
