I tried all of the tutorials and then plunged into the full April 1861 campaign as the Union. Although it seems huge and overwhelming, that's not a bad start because you cannot do very much in the first year as the Union. Not organized or strong enough.
It's a good place to learn all about organizing your army, corps, division and getting ready. Also allows you to start fiddling with the finances without doing much harm because you're mostly in a sit-tight, defensive mode in 1861.
I'm beginning to have a softer view toward the harsh criticism of McClellan. I find myself being overly cautious and believing my opponent has twice the actual forces.
