Turning off the jump-to-leader banners

I've decided that I don't really like them, I find them distracting, and they get in the way of my concentration and immerision.

I seem to recall that there was a way of turning them off, but that it involved changing an instruction line somewhere.

How does one go about turning them off permanently? And what file and/or toggle needs to be changed to make this feature go away?

I've tried shrinking them down, and that doesn't really do any good, especially since they pop back up at the next turn.

And am I correct in assuming that if I can manage to turn them off in WIA, I can use the same method to get rid of them in AACW as well?

You mean the armies outliner?

Yes, I think that's what it's called. The shrinkable banners with generals faces that appear on the right side of the screen, that can be shrunk down to small bars at the bottom of the screen by clicking on the little star.

When I see them with my peripheral vision I keep thinking that they represent real armies that are about to move into the playing areas that I'm looking at, and as often as not, they aren't.

I can almost see why they would be useful in AACW, but in the WIA scenarios that I've looked at they get in the way. So I want to turn them off permanently.

Something that can be a good feature in one game may not work so well in another.

Look at the frontend folder, are there two Guiarmyoutliner... files?

Backup and delete them.

Not sure whether there are any other secondary effects or not

I've been playing around with "A Few Acres of Snow". So far there seem to be no ill effects, and things are looking and acting the way they did a few RC's back.

The only side effect that I can think of is that now I'm noticing how many of my units have renamed themselves as detacments. Fortunately I recently learned that I can rename a unit with an Alt-left click on the unit tab, so I'm running around renaming most of my detachments as garrisons.

In \Settings folder, open GameRules.opt [use NotePad or other text editor]

You'll see:
