Editing the names of generals?

Sat Nov 27, 2010 9:53 am

Which of the following needs to be edited so that a general's name (as displayed on-screen) can be changed?

- the general's .mdl file
- the general's .uni file
- something else?

Thank you.

This works for all AGE games...

This less complex as it seems if you want to edit the name only for cosmetic purposes, as you can change this directly into the LocalStrings_RED file with Excel...

You have to change (in English) in Column B the content of the cells in the rows that hold the Model_Name_xxx, Model_ShortName_xxx, Unit_Name_xxx and Unit_ShortName_xxx, and once done save and replace the file in csv format.

Note however that this won't change the name of the said leader in existing scenarios, because the name has been "written" from the original DB when creating the scenario. However, your new name will appear in the tooltips and units details.

To have the new name permanent would require to regenerate all the scenarios and events where he appears :neener:

What is the purpose may I ask ?

My guess would be to change some of the spellings of names, some are transliterated differently depending on what language you speak. I need to do this since my computer is Russified, meaning when there are characters used with say, an accent mark, I get a cyrillic character:

Not as big a deal in this game, but I have had to go and change a lot in NCP, WIA, and some in ROP. Though I have no complaints about this.
Россия, Украина, Белоруссия - Племён славянских три богатыря
Russia, Ukraine, Belarus - The Slavic tribes' three knights
